I have my first complaint of a low flying helicopter here over Eden Roc. It carried no obvious markings. It was white with a red vertical stripe (not Coast Guard), and was very boxy looking. Any clues who I can complain to about this? Peggy

If it is on a mission for police or rescue, or HELCO, etc.. there is nothing to complain about ... it is probably doing a job that requires it to fly low.
The ones to complain about are the tours that routinely disregard height restrictions, if you are able, but obviously it's not that.
I don't like having helo's shaking up my house, but every so often we get them buzzing around doing who knows what, and I don't think there is much to be done as long as it isn't a regular operation.
You can always call the police and ask them if they have equipment in the area, and they will tell you if they do or don't, although not why. Like one time there was a helicopter hovering over us really low, and landing nearby, and circling, so I called and they confirmed. (It was a homicide investigation.) |

2 of them flying low over the backend of Orchidland Estates now. Only around for a few minutes so not worth complaining about but interesting. There is some type of array sticking out the front (looks like a single pole antenna).

From their actions it looks like MJ search missions.
There's been three different choppers flying grids over Orchidland all morning: a large orange one, the type with the rear rotor enclosed in the tail boom (not the rear-rotorless kind); a small yellow one, and another small, greyish-white one.
Not particularly low but a constant presence since about 10 a.m. Noisy and annoying for folks who work from home.
Called police dispatch but they didn't know what's going on. Waiting for info from Vice .... |

As of 2:15 there are at least three of them over Orchidland. One of them is the big one with the guy who sits at the door with a machine gun. They seem to be going up and down Laniuma.

Make that four. I just saw the mid-sized one that's white with a vertical orange stripe near the front of the cabin.
They also seem to be flying lower now.

I just registered a complaint with the state narcotics division at 808-864-2036.
I was told that the helicopters will leave as soon as they finish their anti-marijuana mission. Very comforting. I'm sure that will be great consolation to my editor wondering why I haven't filed my articles yet and also to my freaked-out dogs and cats .... |

There is also an aircraft noise hot line 1-888-697-7813. I called. They have been getting a lot of complaints.

| What I do not understand is how these guys are allowed to fly so low in the town area of Keaau. The 2 bigger guys were way low this afternoon right through town....No matter what, Keaau town is zoned residential, and these guys were flying right over the schools during hours, way lower than the limit...(interesting to note that the tour helicopters were flying much higher than normal all afternoon, so the overall helicopter noise at the middle school was less....) |

| They buzzed Black Sands yesterday and also Seaview. The rumor is that they made two busts in Seaview. Isn't it interesting that as soon as the Mayor leaves town, the Fed's step in. Of course they had to have the local police involved. Lowest priority for the police Dept.??? I guess if the Mayor is gone, the mice will play. |
