Recently saw interview with Hawaii's newly elected Senator on FOXNEWS. Very impressed with the young fellow. He indicates he is for the people of our great nation, USA. Reduce the debt and get citizens back to work. Ends his interview with Aloha!

Likalizard,
Do you know if Representative Djou (He's not a senator I believe) has voted against the extension of unemployment benefits and will be voting for the extension of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy? Both of which have a negative impact on debt.
I'm not sure of his positions. Willing to give him the benefit of doubt. |

No, Mr Djou is not a Senator.
Fox News? That explains a lot.

| yes, i am also impressed with mr. djou, likalizard, but we will probably be in for all the career politicians once again... hawaii is pretty liberal and it was amazing we had a republican governor for 2 terms. i wanted to see the interview but somehow missed it. |

In the paper today it points out he voted twice not to extend benefits. We've got 10% unemployment on this island. He's got a high paying job and now an amazing retirement even if he's voted out in Nov, so what does he care about anyone else! His support of tax breaks for the wealthy will increase the debt by $30+ billion! |

That isn't entirely true. The paper put a nice election year spin on that. Good to see you concerned about the deficit, but you should look at the whole story.
The Republicans were not voting against the unemployment extension - they were voting against the bill because the Democrats added Billions of extra $ in spending to it and they (Democrats) refused to let the unemployment extension be paid for with already approved and unused TARP money.
Additionally, twice, the Democrats refused to do what the Republicans asked and put only the unemployment extension on the bill.
The tax cuts for the wealthy are equally misquoted. The wealthiest people received approximately a 3 percent cut. Did you know that the "wealthy" in that bill goes all the way down to a family of 4 making 30k year, who essentially pay no federal income tax because of those tax cuts for the wealthy?
With a huge percentage of the people in Puna, alone, working $8-10 an hour jobs, the tax cuts for the wealthy are probably the best thing to have happened.

| it's against the law to use the tarp money, they would have to change the law in congress to use it and with the repubs blocking everything how would that go? the tax breaks for the wealthy they are talking about letting expire will affect the top 2 to 3% of americans making over $200k a year, the rest of us would not be affected, by the way the repubs are the ones that put an expiration date on their tax cuts for the rich because they didn't pay for them(just like their made up wars which they've wasted a trillion dollars) which is one of the reasons we are in this deficit mess, remember after clinton they had a surplus, so now we have Dijou walking and voting in lockstep with his party against unemployment for the poor, can't wait to see him voted out in november. |
