Spice up Grandma http://www.icompositions.com/artists/jlgerk RE: favorite Big Island gift - mar1957 - 09-26-2012 Talking about coconuts - I always send a coconut in the mail -- you can find them painted -- also can find ones made into banks-- RE: favorite Big Island gift - dwedeking - 09-26-2012 We've done the various farmer's market trinkets and other normal gifts. My dad and brother love some home brews shipped to them. Last Xmas we had a non-corporate christmas which everyone loved. Dehydrated pineapple (yellow and white), dehydrated bananas, honey, lilikoi butter and other things we either traded with friends for or made ourselves. I didn't get any complaints. "Government is good at one thing: it knows how to break your legs, hand you a crutch, and say, 'See, if it weren’t for the government, you wouldn’t be able to walk." - Harry Browne RE: favorite Big Island gift - csgray - 09-26-2012 My family love getting the Hawaii versions of reusable shopping bags, the spam musabi one I got my daughter at Foodland is always a big hit at the checkout lines. They fold flat, are light, and fit really well in those "one price for everything you can fit into it" mailers. Even people who don't do the reusable bag thing like them for lunches and picnics. Carol RE: favorite Big Island gift - KeaauRich - 09-26-2012 We fill up flat rate mailing boxes with Hawaiian-flavored jellies and jams, mac nuts, syrups, cookies, etc. Just go to KTA and stock up. You can also get ag-certified plant starts at WalMart and other tourist magnet stores - before we moved here we had a 5'tall red ti plant growing in our living room started from a WalMart purchase. For our coffee-loving relatives, we fill a flat rate box with several different brands and flavors of 100% Kona and Ka'u coffee along with a couple of Hawaii mugs so they can have their own taste-off. RE: favorite Big Island gift - kalakoa - 09-26-2012 Flavored SPAM and fresh white pinapple, though I have yet to send both in the same box. RE: favorite Big Island gift - Susan - 09-26-2012 Ka'u coffee from the vendor at Makuu mkt. Especially the peaberry whole bean if they have it. RE: favorite Big Island gift - SandyS - 09-26-2012 I second Susan's suggestion. We get our weekly coffee fix from the same vendor. RE: favorite Big Island gift - csgray - 09-26-2012 KTA also has some super cute Hawaii centered picture books in the section with the diapers and baby formula. The Gecko and Honu books are especially cute. Carol |
