Fire in Puna - Guest - 07-14-2014 Seen on the news last night that a three story house was burned down in Puna, South of Maku'u near beaches rd. As far as I know it was unoccupied at the time. Anyone have more details ? RE: Fire in Puna - deserteagle50ae - 07-14-2014 Lightning strike maybe? RE: Fire in Puna - csgray - 07-14-2014 Not all fires are arson. Carol RE: Fire in Puna - Guest - 07-14-2014 I don't know the details, thats why I am asking, the news seemed to think it was started. RE: Fire in Puna - Obie - 07-14-2014 So why did you create this topic "Arson in Puna " ? Most of the structure fires in Puna are caused by accidents and the arsons are insurance scams. By the way,is your gun going to protect you from fire ? RE: Fire in Puna - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-14-2014 I can't find the exact location on the tax office map, but it looks like the house was about 1/2 to 1 mile south of Maku'u Drive (Toward Pahoa direction). It's not in Paradise Park, it's a more remote area with 3 to 9 acre parcels. They just got electric power lines a few years back, but only a few residents have signed up with HELCO. RE: Fire in Puna - alaskyn66 - 07-14-2014 Probably not arson..unless its for insurance. When in Rome.. Do as the Romans do.... RE: Fire in Puna - Guest - 07-14-2014 The news gave the idea that maybe people were squatting and caused a fire. RE: Fire in Puna - malolo - 07-14-2014 Sad regardless of precise circumstances. Very glad no one was hurt. http://bigislandnow.com/2014/07/13/fire-destroys-home-on-government-beach-road/ Smoke alarms were on sale at Keaau Ace today. RE: Fire in Puna - csgray - 07-14-2014 TV news here all comes from Honolulu, they often have no idea what they are talking about, since many of the Honolulu news media have never been to the Big Island, much less Puna. Take anything about Puna you hear or see on TV newscasts with a grain of salt. The police notification that was sent out did not say anything about arson, even if it was squatters it still is probably not arson, which is a deliberately started fire, not just someone getting careless with a candle or cigarette butt. Arson has a very specific meaning, and is fairly rare here, although there is a firebug who regularly starts grass fires between Waimea and Waikoloa they haven't caught yet. Carol |
