economic impact of TMT "controversy" - kalakoa - 09-18-2015

http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/news/local-news/economist-warns-fallout-tmt-controversy

...a 2012 UH study that found the $59 million spent annually by the observatories created $92 million in economic activity, $28 million in local income, and 806 local jobs.

"The absence of the TMT would likely mean $20 million per year less in local spending, $10 million per year less in local incomes, and the absence of 275 jobs that would otherwise be there"

"The other part of the story is the reputational impact on the state"

Do you think the protesters care about economics?

It's a rare circumstance when you can pull yourself up, by pulling someone else down.

If some people want to wear loincloths, fight technology and live off the land, we should send them to Kahoolawe.

Do you think the protesters care about economics?

They should; any benefits they receive are funded by the economy at large.

It's inexcusable the protesters were not arrested and charged each day they appeared. If I was the mayor I would have called the governor and pushed for the national guard from the onset. When the fragile economy of our island is being threatened by illegal activity, you address it as the significant threat that it is. But oh no, these criminals manipulated and lied everyday to the media for months as they were breaking the law. No excuse to have allowed this circus to continue, NO EXCUSE other than major incompetency.

Just as disturbing as the illegal activity, is the system that allowed them to continue. Who does Kenoi support? Does he even care?

Slick Willy Kenoi cares about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

The TMT protests are the most stupid thing I can imagine for the well being of this County and its citizens.
However it does serve some very long term economic and political agendas. (Not the sovereignty or independence movement though).
I'll just leave it at that.
