RE: Dengue state of emergency - Kenney - 01-29-2016

I'm so relieved that this Dengue outbreak is finally getting the attention it deserves.
Mahalo to to T. Gabbard, Josh Greene , and the few other voices of reason throughout this outbreak.
This has gone on too long..
DOH, Vector Control and Epidemiology need to be funded and positions filled, stat.
Better late than never but small consolation to those who have suffered through the disease.

What's wrong with Ige? Why is he saying "no" to a state of emergency?

RE: Dengue state of emergency - kalakoa - 01-30-2016

What's wrong with Ige?

He's not a real Governor; he's a puppet.

RE: Dengue state of emergency - Chunkster - 01-30-2016

"What's wrong with Ige?" Where do you want to start? He has no backbone, is Oahu-centric, is in the pocket of the state employees' unions, and seems to have no interest in fostering consequences for incompetent bureaucrats. And that's just my short list.

RE: Dengue state of emergency - Kenney - 01-30-2016

Once I was aware of this outbreak, I called and emailed Ige, DOH, Billy K, CD, , CDC and gave them all the reasons why we should aggressively combat this outbreak without delay.
I got a for letter from our illustrious Gov., saying He had forwarded the letter to DOH, instead of responding to my concerns, which were valid. DOH is so woefully understaffed that they passed on the Task to Darryl Oliverai instead
of spearheading the job that needed to be done, for which they are trained. Only advance degree Nurses are hired at DOH. CERT volunteers have a 2 day training. Who would you prefer to have doing patient /community education and assessments?
The head of DOH also sent me a form letter urging me to" fight the bite", again ignoring my concerns.
It is my understanding that DOH staff is trained to deal with health matters, and Civil Defense staff are trained in other areas to protect us when there are risks other than health issues.
Why should CERT and Civil Defense be doing the work of the Health Department? We know they are trained for emergencies, but medical issues are the Kuliana of DOH, CDC, WHO., not Civil Defense.
Throughout, there have been voices of reason, but they have been ignored.
I hope that Tulsi can keep the pressure on til such time as the properly trained personnel are funded and on the job.
I am sincerely disappointed at the inaction of our Governor and the D O H big wigs who keep telling us everything's under control. Obviously, it's not.
It's about time risks on the Big Island were addressed as aggressively as they would have been had they occurred on Maui or Oahu.
Seems they only time these people care about us is when a vote is close. Politicians abounded after Izelle when they wanted our votes.
Again, Mahalo Tulsie, Dr Greene, and Civil Defense. It's nice to know somebody is watching out for us.

Me too. Thanks eigoya!

RE: Dengue state of emergency - eigoya - 01-31-2016

More on the politico/dengue front. I'm flummoxed by his lack of awareness and/or consideration of the actual and potential scope of this problem. And Kenoi......the whole state/county govt appears AWOL.
