Gambling in Hawaii!! - Guest - 04-03-2016 Not sure why this type of fantasy sports entertainment is considered as illegal gambling in Hawaii? https://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/sports-breaking/hawaii-attorney-general-says-fantasy-sports-constitute-illegal-gambling/ It would be nice to read what some of you here on punaweb think about this type of entertainment or gambling? So MR. Chin decided that this type of individually paid fantasy entertainment is wrong, inappropriate, or unlawful. Should be interesting to see what this same Mr Chin thinks of our mayor Kenoi's type of community entertainment spending then. RE: Gambling in Hawaii!! - leilanidude - 04-03-2016 DraftKings and FanDuel were even involved with a FBI probe over some of their employees cheating on the games at the customers' expense. Play at your own risk, for sure. Never trust an internet gambling company either! The software can do anything they want it to. RE: Gambling in Hawaii!! - terracore - 04-03-2016 “Gambling generally occurs under Hawaii law when a person stakes or risks something of value upon a game of chance or upon any future contingent event not under the person’s control,” Chin said in a news release. Better call your broker and let them know your 401k is illegal. RE: Gambling in Hawaii!! - kalakoa - 04-03-2016 risks something of value ... upon any future contingent event not under the person's control Like building a home in the path of the lava flow? That makes both permitting and insurance "gambling", and therefore illegal? RE: Gambling in Hawaii!! - alaskyn66 - 04-03-2016 Driving to the store is gambling Work..Consume...Obey - There's your meaning of life.... RE: Gambling in Hawaii!! - Guest - 04-03-2016 Interesting that Utah and Hawaii are the only states in america who don't allow any type of legalized gambling. Utah does have a lot of Mormon residents who may not want gambling, I can understand it a bit. What would Hawaii's excuse be, to not participate in any type of legalized gaming? http://thegardenisland.com/news/local/the-million-dollar-question/article_ed1f02aa-7c12-11e3-95bc-0019bb2963f4.html?mode=jqm Hawaii does seem to spend a lot of money every year with its fair share of gambling litigation. Hawaii also has a very rich gambling history that I believe dates back to the Hawaiian kingdom. This gambling issue in hawaii ( legal or illegal ) could be a long and continued illegal contributions scam, paying off millions every year, jmo. RE: Gambling in Hawaii!! - terracore - 04-03-2016 There is plenty of gambling in Hawaii. Organized crime isn't going to let the legal variety interfere with their profits. All that being said, if Hawaii allowed even a few legal Vegas-esque casinos in our tourist meccas, the river of tax revenue flowing into the coffers could fund schools and significantly lower taxes. On the other hand, prohibition has been so incredibly successful each time government has tried it lets stop dreaming. The Democrats who run this state would never lower taxes. RE: Gambling in Hawaii!! - terracore - 04-03-2016 Of course not. That's why I said it "could". Theory is everything. RE: Gambling in Hawaii!! - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 04-03-2016 Does anyone really believe that? The Democrats who run this state would never lower taxes. Look at the other states where officials promised they would reduce local taxes if gambling were legalized. It rarely happens. Gambling is however, extremely effective at extracting money from the poor. "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives." -Annie Dillard |
