HILO — A longtime marijuana activist.. is suing in an attempt to stop the opening of state-licensed medical marijuana dispensaries.
The suit, filed Thursday in U.S. District Court by Mike Ruggles of Mountain View, names as defendants Gov. David Ige, state Health Director Virginia Pressler, state Attorney General Douglas Chin, and the four companies awarded state licenses to grow and sell marijuana, and those companies’ owners.
The suit alleges the state’s medical marijuana dispensary law is a violation of federal racketeering and drug laws...
“The state cannot license people to break federal law and that’s exactly what they’ve done with these dispensaries...
“They’re basically trying to make money off the backs of sick and poor people,” he said...
“They’re looking to have their eight friends make millions breaking federal laws but basically denying us...”

I've been hoping the dispensaries are a stepping stone on the way to full legalization.

ps that may also be Jen Ruggles at the 2:07 mark of vid, she is running for Puna Dist 5 council seat, you see her pics everywhere along rds on placards... Im not 100% sure she is related to Mike (daughter?), but Id put $$ on it..

The state cannot license people to break federal law
Federal "preemption" was the justification for State to invalidate County's LLEP ordinance.
State can't have this both ways.
what does that say about the politicians we have, especially the lawyers among them?
Nothing new -- consider it a "handout", because it's the lawyers who will be making money if any suits are filed.

Well, I have to agree the proposed dispensary system is probably not going to result in affordable medication. We need legalization. It does sound like typical crony capitalism, and they will go broke under the rules, because no one can afford it. I think Mike Ruggles has been trying in his own way to help those who need this product. If commercial growers have to test and demonstrate the quality and strength of their product, but not have this unreasonable set of growing rules, we'd be better off.

Mr Ruggles has brought up some very valid points regarding this mmj process for years, he seems to know the laws pretty well too. Jmo
Questions here,
What are the differences between Mr Ruggles mmj said co-op or community mmj card holder collective business and hawaii's mmj dispensary program?
Also should the thousands of patient mmj card holders have any say or input as to the way they would like to obtain their medication here in Hawaii or America?

Sure, but they don't get the patient "high" like the MJ does.
If MJ cures cancer, how come long-term users of it, still get cancer?

We don't really know what "cures" might exist, because studies are effectively forbidden.
