Rainfall for 2018? - KiminPL - 01-02-2019

Did anyone track the total 2018 annual rainfall in Leilani Estates or nearby? Thanks for any info you may have.

Someone in upper Leilani has a weather station on Weather Underground - They show 206 inches for the year of 2018, but it looks like it was not hooked up until early March. In Kehena area, we had 125 inches from early Feb to the end of the year.

i live in leilani and one of our neighbors tracks daily via cocorahs and the yearly total was 256.48 inches. as far as i can tell our normal yearly average according to them is about 140 inches. there used to be two i would compare but unfortunately the other person recording stopped in july. pretty amazing amount of rainfall if you ask me!

In some areas there was a lot of volcano weather related rainfall. Not regular rainfall.

I'd be very interested to know the total rainfall of 2018 of the immediate radius surrounding Leilani. That volcano rain was weird stuff.

RE: Rainfall for 2018? - KiminPL - 01-03-2019

Thank you all for your responses. Still hoping to hear at least one more reliable total for the full year. 256.48 inches is so far off the charts, it requires corroboration. Smile
I usually rely on a friend for the numbers who was unfortunately under mandatory evacuation and unable to regularly maintain records.
@Rob Tucker -- I understand about the volcano-related rainfall bringing more rain than normal. Hawaii also had some wacky major storms that produced all that flooding in Hilo and points north -- I think on those occasions Hilo had a lot more rain than Leilani.

2018 was an interesting year. Smile

the other recorder i used to keep track of had 155.51 inches up until 7/31. ive been tracking these for 3 years and i do believe they are right on. you can even check out the dates for the recordings and compare the two. remember they were in separate parts of the subdivision where rainfalls are different. but they are pretty similar in terms of amount in the same given time period.

HI-HI-56
HI-Hi-51

type in the dates and check out. i do believe hi-hi-51 is on oneloa in leilani

Just posted on the other thread, "think it's too wet", about how there are so many states, cities in the mainland USA claiming it has been the wettest year on record there too.

@spencerw, thank you for the links, great information. Mind boggling year of rain, for sure! Wonder how 2019 will shape up. Any predictions?
