Who's responsible here? - kalakoa - 08-03-2019 https://www.westhawaiitoday.com/2019/08/03/opinion/time-for-an-accountability-test/ Mayor: Ask him a question and he will tell you a story, again, usually about his idealistic vision for Maunakea. He delegates everything else to the deputy mayor. Coconut wireless said he campaigned promising the unions 400 new positions. So far 430, but can’t keep transfer stations open. RE: Who's responsible here? - TomK - 08-03-2019 Sigh. Do you really need to ask this or asking for more attention? The state is responsible but has passed that on to others who have no authority because they don't have the guts to do anything. We've discussed this already and that's the answer. RE: Who's responsible here? - Kaimana - 08-03-2019 I think Rob is in charge here. For sure he's the mod of this forum. ![]() RE: Who's responsible here? - randomq - 08-04-2019 Wow, that was quite the airing of grievances! It certainly does seem there is zero accountability for government. We don't have state level recall here, so we can't just vote the Ige out. We could recall Harry I think. RE: Who's responsible here? - kalakoa - 08-04-2019 Do you really need to ask this I thought the piece provided an excellent overview of how all parties involved are mismanaging the situation. Would you prefer no accountability, no discussion, no telescopes? Because that's where we're headed. I even honored the Gods of Copyright by only posting an excerpt. RE: Who's responsible here? - Punatic007 - 08-04-2019 You can't discuss this enough, it's huge and it's very disturbing to law abiding citizens. Talking and writing about it definitely helps. Hopefully some posters will have some new info or ideas to help relieve some of the anxiety most of Hawaii is experiencing right now. My Hawaiian descent friends are feeling the same thing and worse, one just said it's shameful and depressing. She thought we were better than this, way better. Lots of racists and other degenerates are joining the crew up on the mountain. I grew up in the south and remember the racists with the flags on the back of their jacked up trucks, they were dangerous people. Why on earth are they imitating the confederate fanatics? RE: Who's responsible here? - snorkle - 08-04-2019 Yes.....Those racists have quite the nerve.....Questioning the marginalization of indigenous cultures. It's almost as bad as other indigenous cultures questioning "Manifest Destiny". Capitalism has every right to eliminate obstacles that stand in the way of progress, profits, and Western Civilization. edit: Sarcasm RE: Who's responsible here? - Punatic007 - 08-04-2019 Snorkle, can you clarify for me who exactly is considered indigenous on this planet? Which races or skin colors? RE: Who's responsible here? - randomq - 08-04-2019 Snorkle, I understand the protesters religious views are marginal, as most have adopted christianity or athiesm. But how would you say indigenous Hawaiians are being marginalized today? My impression is that we are all treated equally under Hawaii's democratic government, and Hawaiians even have some additional resources available beyond our already generous social safety net. RE: Who's responsible here? - snorkle - 08-04-2019 Looking at it from a different lens; "Colonialism is the policy of a nation seeking to extend or retain its authority over other people or territories, generally with the aim of economic dominance." Is this ethical? Well, perhaps more so in the eyes of the occupier than the occupied. |
