Something that really bothers me! - Beachboy - 08-15-2008 As I await a flight back to Puna at the Honolulu Airport. I tend to enjoy people watching something my grandparents were experts at. But what caught my eyes today was this tourist/father walking around with his daughter. THe daughter appeared to be under 3 of age, I'd guess. But what caught my attention with these two was the leash!!! I hate to see parents who walk their kids on leashes. This is some real disturbing stuff for me! I really, really get pissed off with parents that take this lazy route with their children. I have gotten into the faces of these parents before too. It really breaks my heart to see kids with leashes on them. I mean it's somewhat disturbing for me to see animals on leashes too. Am I be crazy with this? Or do the majority of you folks agree with me, in that no kid belongs on a leash,...never This kinda crap really ,really bothers me because I love kids so much! ----------- have a great diet. You're allowed to eat anything you want, but you must eat it with naked fat people. ~Ed Bluestone RE: Something that really bothers me! - EightFingers - 08-15-2008 There are alarms that go off when the kid goes beyond a certain distance from the parent (Who has the receiver/transmitter). I think this would be better than a leash. When you talk to the parents, what do you suggest as an alternative? RE: Something that really bothers me! - mattastic78 - 08-15-2008 Have you ever been around a 3 year old? I can see the reason you might want to keep your 3 year old in close sights, ESPECIALLY in a busy airport. How is it that much different than buckling them in a carseat, or in a stroller? At least on a leash they have the freedom to move their legs. RE: Something that really bothers me! - DanielP - 08-15-2008 Was the kid pulling the father through the airport? RE: Something that really bothers me! - mella l - 08-15-2008 I too love children and I too find it disturbing when I see children on leeds. This behavior seems demeaning to me but as Carey says she has no ill affects. Still it raises the hair on my arms, and I wonder about the attention span of the adult in the party, and the motives. I'm sure there are reasons that this is necessary, however it seems to be an abused practice in my minds eye. I took my son into the ladies rest room with his sister and I when we were traveling. That only lasted until 7 or so when he complained! Well ok then he went into the men's restroom and I waited at the door for him, with the understanding that if he wasn't out in 1 minute (guys are quicker than girls usually!), I'd be coming in after him. OH NO! mella l "Resolve to be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant with the weak and wrong....because sometime in your life you will have been all of these." RE: Something that really bothers me! - kani-lehua - 08-15-2008 kids on leashes, i dunno? dogs on leashes, most definitely. if you are walking the neighborhood, that is. no tied up in the yard chained animals for me. our dogs have full range of our premises they keep unwanted guests out--this house hasn't been burglarized in over 50 years. good neighbors help, too. "chaos reigns within. reflect, repent and reboot. order shall return." microsoft error message with haiku poetry RE: Something that really bothers me! - Noel M2 - 08-15-2008 It is not my preference but I can understand why folks use them (leashes). Just a few months ago, a young child got away from grandparents at a store in Oahu. They chased after the child but failed to prevent him/her from being hit by a car. The child passed away. Noel http://HiloParadise.com RE: Something that really bothers me! - Guest - 08-15-2008 quote: I don't have any problem with dogs on leashes as everyone knows. I remember getting lost as a child in a grocery store when I was a small kid, one of the most frightening things that ever happened to me. As a parent now, I think how much more frightened my mother must have been. It's very easy for parents to get distracted for even that one little second. I don't agree with leashes on kids.... But I sure the heck will yank my son's ear until he follows me closely[] And while were talking about kids in the airports, don't forget, last week a four year old was left at an airport while their parents went off! ------- blog RE: Something that really bothers me! - StillHope - 08-15-2008 quote:And judging by your good manners,I assume, you went to the best obedience school?[] RE: Something that really bothers me! - John S. Rabi - 08-15-2008 Though I am not really qualified to express an opinion in this case since I have no kids, but I have traveled to many places in the world and I have seen how kids are being handled in different cultures and countries. My recommendation is MYOB, don't judge so you won't be judged. Aloha, John S.
