We want to plant trees but would rather not bulldoze. The plan I have in my head, which may be stupid, is to get some holes put in where I want trees, plant them, and then bring in some cinder to make walking easy. I need drainage and space for soil.18/24" X 24" with drainage. RE: Need some one to pound holes in lava - loffelkopffl - 09-19-2007 go to puna rentals and rent a jack hammer and compressor, $95.00 day RE: Need some one to pound holes in lava - Larry T - 09-20-2007 Thanks to Danial Diamond I found Chip and he is pounding. RE: Need some one to pound holes in lava - hpp4me - 09-20-2007 Does this approach (pounding holes for plants) lead to healthy plants? I wonder about drainage and the ability of the plants to put down a good root system. Larry, what is the cost per hole? Others, does the idea of creating plant wholes and using cinder to create a "walkable lot" make sense as an alternative to expensive bulldozing? Edited by - hpp4me on 09/20/2007 06:51:27 RE: Need some one to pound holes in lava - tmyc - 09-20-2007 Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Instead of bulldozing the lot, I was thinking about bringing in cinder to level the areas I wanted level. Anyone do this before? Is it less costly? RE: Need some one to pound holes in lava - Larry T - 09-21-2007 I wanted to kept the lava, I think the bare lava looks real nice. Chip is $100 per hour, but he can do a lot in a hour. I had some lava what was real hard and some soft. He must have pulled 20 large roots and pounded 15 holes, drilled me a "mail box" hole, moved some soil in 3 1/2 hours. The cost was a lot less than bulldozing the lot. |
