We do really want Obama as our President? - sweetwater - 10-06-2008 I know I'm opening a can of worms, especially in a predominantly democratic state but I'm telling you...the thought of Obama being our president scares me to death. #1, he has no experience. #2, these social programs sound great but they cost billions and trillions of dollars. Where do you think this money will come from??? I personally feel that too much money already comes out of my paychecks, making it hard to make ends meet. #3 Based on past experience, once we implement government assisted programs, you will NEVER get them reversed. As soon as you try to take away from these programs..people scream and cry. As I watch the polls...I'm glad that I am Hawaii where I can grow the majority of my food and no longer have to worry about heating my home. We are two aging hippies who have always wanted to be self-substaining. In view of the potential increase in taxation, I think we made the right move! Think about it before you vote. Obama says all the right things but WHO'S going to pay for these changes...WE ARE. The Government has been functioning in the deficit for how many years already? We can clearly see this in Hawaii. For this population, we should have WAY more health facilities and physicians than we do!!! Everyone is concerned about their health care needs yet continues to vote for a more socialistic government. There are zero Assistive Living facilities and only one smaller sized hospital for over 60,000 people! I don't care what party it actually involves..we need to vote in the party which will have the interest of the AVERAGE citizen in mind! Don't wait until it's too late. Seriously look at both candidates and then head for the election booths. If we choose to have socialism, then don't complain because you have inadequate health care and lots of deductions from your paycheck! The headlines have recently shown how doctors are rapidly leaving the islands and many of you are aware that I have been unable to find a nursing job since my arrival. We need to take care of ourselves..not have the government step in and FORCE us to follow their agenda. Linda Bowman RE: We do really want Obama as our President? - Andrew - 10-06-2008 People who don't work voting to get more money from those who do. Andrew RE: We do really want Obama as our President? - Guest - 10-06-2008 Says you, me and maybe 5 other Puna-webers, ha ha. Making a comment like that here, is analogous to telling the Pope that there is no god. Regardless if it is true or not, it wont make you friends in the Vatican. In your search to understand why people will welcome the change to socialism and government dependence via government domination, read the book “The True Believer” by Eric Hoffer. I think no other person has nailed the psyche of those that will destroy what has made America great. quote: Alexis de Tocqueville had it right when he said, “The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money." We are there now, and short of a revolution, I see no way out of it. RE: We do really want Obama as our President? - lquade - 10-06-2008 do we really want obama as our president? NO[V][V] scarey scarey potential reality. there are those of us shaking our heads, even in this democratic state.. you are not alone.. RE: We do really want Obama as our President? - lostboystoy - 10-06-2008 Oh oh I thought national politics were not allowed on puna-web![V] setting my soul free.... RE: We do really want Obama as our President? - lostboystoy - 10-06-2008 p.s you really think 4 more years of the same are going to get hawaii any better? setting my soul free.... RE: We do really want Obama as our President? - lostboystoy - 10-07-2008 and before anyone jumps to conclusion that I am an Obama supporter. I think this is the scariest election I have ever voted for. It has always been choosing the lesser of two evils. since I have been old enough to vote. Its time for change, but to what extent. I personally think that we need an independent pres. divide the house and senate, but keep the pres. independent so he or she can take the best ideas from both sides. and implement them. setting my soul free....
