Cool beans Nancy! I see this topic come up from time to time and I always look but there is never much to them. The videos are awesome... particularly the second one. And Eight how crazy is that... that it is so near you! I liked that it took us inside and really gave us a feel for it and the construction methods. Very nice! Thank you.

Well.....the neighbors weren't too crazy about it at first (some still aren't) but most have come around. I've driven by it many times (it's sort of on my way home from work). I like it.

I can see how some people might be less than thrilled to see someone building a home that does not fit the character of the neighborhood.

But it so great recycling these things, and I think lots more people are aware of using shipping containers...maybe its getting more acceptable now...and I think one should inform their neighbors of what they are doing so they aren't left to wonder "what the heck is that?"
My husband and I are getting more serious about using them for our next build.

I completely agree Nancy! I love alternative construction and building material options and these are a great example. My favorite is when they use unique configurations as they did in the 2nd video. I have some great ideas for them. Do you happen to know what these used containers go for these days? I saw recently but have forgotten. I also wonder if acquiring permits is a bugger.

I get the alternative building style bit, they do look interesting. But, aren't OLD shipping containers already being recycled and turned back into "new" containers? How does taking a decent container out of service (because you won't be building with a damaged, rusted one) which forces the creation of a new one to replace it, doing something positive? Some of these people even build using NEW containers. That doesn't sound very sustainable?
