Imiloa Holiday Party - pslamont - 12-16-2011

A big MAHALO to Jim and Carey for inviting us along to the Imiloa Holiay Supporters Appreciation party. Benito got to make cookies (and more importantly eat them), play with tech toys, see a great presentation on our local star arrays. I got to hear Noel Morata sing with the Men's chior and Lee E play some lovely guitar.

It is very satisfying to be out and about in this rather small town and meet up with people we know or know of. It is always fun meeting Punatic's for me. If anyone hasn't experienced the IMax at Imiloa, I suggest you give it a look see. Not as sophisticated as we have seen elsewhere but far beyond what one would expect in this sleepy little town. They have done a great job and it is clear that they will continue to develop the facility over time with community support. Smile

I sang with the chorus last night and would have loved to meet you. I was the guy in the front row on the far left.

Great meeting you in person, Pam. It was a super event and yes, it's surprising how much cultural richness and intellectual stimulation there is available here in East Hawaii.

RE: Imiloa Holiday Party - Kelena - 12-17-2011

I wasn't aware of this event and have never been to Imiloa, but had a wonderful time last night at a different venue. Friends invited me to dinner and then we went to a play at the East Hawaii Cultural Center ($8!). The play was fun and the acting superb, with some moments of genius. Pedro. Wow. The talent blazed in that guy. Jessica, Robert, Laura -- such engaging performances. Thanks. What impressed me is that, as LeeE says, there is so much cultural richness here and so much to do.

I too sang with PMC last night and really enjoyed seeing the room fill up as our sounds wafted out of the room and called people in. We had a good time and so did the audience.

RE: Imiloa Holiday Party - Carey - 12-17-2011

Kelena, we are sooo lucky to have Pedro back! He has been one of the shining stars in Hilo productions, and we have missed his talent while he was away at school!

And yes, there is such a great variety of talent here. We are often amazed when the Shakespeare players, KDEN & Hilo players all have shows running at near the same time, and all have really good actors....for the east side to have that many venues going with auditions, practice & shows, it really is incredible! (we have seen some of the actors in two or more plays running back to back, or even at the same time... I cannot even guess how they remember their lines, much less act well!

PS: Imiloa has some wonderful tech geek stuff, and they do run both special sky shows & asto tech talk once a month.... and now have started a daily 3pm Hawaii sky tonight show that has more in-depth discussions on the stars, planets & constellations that are, or should be, visible on the evening you are there... for more info on Imiloa:

Thanks, Carey. Can't wait to go learn more about Imiloa and I am glad you guys had such a wonderful time. Yes, Pedro was a force of nature, putting on an astonishing, full-out, highly nuanced, and very physical performance that was bigger than the room he was working. The entire cast acted their hearts out, as if there were 3,000 people in the audience rather than 30.

Would love to go to the astro talk at Imiloa! So much to do here, and so much of it is free, or very low in cost.

Kinda funny when you read this thread after "Activities".

Now I wasn't gonna say that. I have done the Dark Side of the Moon at Imiloa. I enjoyed that. We hope to make them more of a destination, too.

RE: Imiloa Holiday Party - Ed Smay - 12-18-2011

I sang with the chorus as well. Wish I would have known that you
were there Pam!

Front Row, third from the left as the Audience viewed us.

It has been a while since we have seen each other. It was a nice
event!
