no need to go off island to bring in your steam turbines stories or pro/anti renewables or.....

Isnt the operator of our Puna Geothermal a non U.S. off island company?

back to the topic after this station break - grin

Have no idea why you continue to use the LAVA flow thread Bull... perhaps you do not know how to start a new thread or do a search.... both are at the top of the page...

EDIT: Started a new derail thread for this power stuff

Chunk - what you talking about?

The current June 27th flow seems a bit more active than the K2 flow. It has moved half as far as the K2 flow did in a year, in a month; 4.2 Km.

Is the new flow good news? Having trouble sorting out the photos to get the direction.

I think Chunkster wandered off the path and landed on the wrong topic. [:p]

Those illegal tours have been going on since last fall. This last week there is a review from parents who fell behind in the dark with a knee injury, but let their boys keep walking with the main group. Then the kids got their shoes stuck in the mud and the guides told them to go back down the muddy trail in the dark and find their parents. Kids got off trail and got lost but luckily they found it again and somehow got back with their parents.

It really tweaks me when guides charging over a $100 for a hike abandon hikers who can't keep up, and those kids could have been really lost or worse. (The parents do accept blame for not keeping the kids back with them when they had to stop.)

Check the map

RE: Recent flow activity - DanielP - 07-30-2014

That hike is a long difficult hike for novices; i.e. parents and children

I did check the map, but it confused me. Sorry. That's why I asked.

The new Lava Pond is a very interesting feature and allows the newest flow to go over existing flows,no forest to slow her down.
Once she passes the higher new ridge of 2007,she will broaden out as she is channelized now,she is on old flows mostly pahoehoe so her forward progress is quick.
She has made the newer flows,so she can travel faster, creating a new path and pali in her ways down to the ocean .She is still far north of the rift,it is an interesting new flow with plenty room to spare .
In our experience, each new layer of Pele is approx 30 feet thick, flow after flow creates a new pali .
On the N.W. side of Mauna Ulu approx 3/4s of the way up,is an old lava pond feature and Mauna Ulu has every feature of Pele known .
Great new map and photo's.
