Wyatt,

Your home is really taking shape. You guys sure do fine work and it seems so fast from this vantage! Good show I say!

When you have a minute a few questions please.

What is the siding material you used pic #98?

Is it customary not to put boards over rafters, and just put the metal roof on the rafters pic # 105?

Is the beam over the great room going to be open beam pic# 105? That will look grand!

Mahalo,

mella l

Hi Mella how have you been?
Thanks for your words of encouragement.
The siding is called Hadri-Plank. Looks good lasts long but labor intensive.
The metal can be put directly to the trusses with out plywood underlay.
The ceiling is not open beam. It will either be drywall or a bamboo laminate plywood. There is attic space.
With open beam ceiling and no attic space you would have tongue and groove or a plywood product under the metal.
Mella stop by next time you are on island, if you can.

Aloha
Wyatt

Wyatt I've been reading about everything since my return from Hawaii in January 07. I looked at lots in Seaview not knowing you existed until I returned home to Michigan. Interesting and very helpful since I'm planning on building the same house in HPP when I finally sell mine here in Michigan (NOT EASY). I'd like to ask you a few questions if you don't mind... If you can email me, I'd really appreciate your Kokua. Mahalo. Tommy.

Hardie Plank is labor intensive on installation but it more than makes up for it with low maintenance in the long term. The potential negative with it is if you you use a cut off saw to size it, you have to be carefull not to breath the dust. It is cement based and cement contains silica. Silica dust can cause silicosis.

Using a high quality caulk on the joints now will save you grief from shrinkage in the future.

My house was built with Hardie Plank 7 years ago and I am still very happy with it.

The shower is great! The inlay bery nice touch. Wyatt what are the large tiles. They look textured a nice color and about 16 inches square. What material is that?
