Not sure what kind of passing grade the free press gets around these parts, but they do cover other angles of hot topics from time to time.

Was there one government p-card or did Kenoi's assistance and others have other p-cards that were also being taken advantage of?.

Alcohol, candy, dining, travel, and flowers seem to be the most popular items the government p-cards were being used for. Why couldn't those items and other things like surf trips have been paid for by cash or personal checks and credit cards?
Trust means nothing if you cant trust government or its elected leaders,jmo. This type of pcard theft(everyone does) has been going on for many years. This may not amount to anything more than another free round of passes for those to continue hawaii's bad government habits, practices, or ethics,jmo.

As a merchant, I can assure you I'm just as happy to accept personal credit cards, personal checks, or cash, as I am government or corporate or business payments.

So, the lynch mob does understand there is no pCard law? It is an agreement with a State office. The only enforcement in the agreement is pCard abuse results in pCard use removed. If it is used for illegal purposes, then there can be prosecution. A hostess bar is still a bar and bars are considered places to eat, by law. It is perfectly legal to use a pCard for a meal in a bar while on travel duty, which is what Kenoi was doing in Honolulu. All he did was get overcharged for a meal.
If there was no criminal activity involved, then there is no prosecution. Possibly a severe letter of reprimand.

A pCard cannot be used to buy alcohol... and cannot be used to purchase personal items for personal use.

I think one reason the public is so angry over his actions is because it shakes our faith to realize that someone voted in to be the mayor by the people of this island now needs to be "reprimanded" or "have the card taken away". Sounds like the punishment for a bratty teenager, not an educated man. He must be so embarrassed over being caught. jmo

Not much. A few hours of drinks, food, and conversation for 4 guys with hostess's drinking their watered beverage of choice. No prostitution, just 4 guys "living large", local style.
You guys may need to get out more. Dinner, wine, and tip for 4 at any high level restaurant in Seattle, LA, or HNL is going to cost more than $800. Ive spent that much at Huggos in Kona... it's what things cost when your entertainment for the evening consists of a fancy dinner, expensive drinks/ wine, in a nice place.
Korean bars don't serve fine food and wines, instead they offer a hostess to sit and talk with each guest. Don't see what's hard to understand about that, but again, I've traveled throughout Asia on business' and know how commonplace this system is.

That's your reality leilaniguy, but not everyone's. I have a friend, a serious volcanologist, used to be on staff at HVO, then was a professor of geology at UH Hilo, who whenever he did stints on Oahu that had him there, disconnected from his family here, overnight would hang out at a hostess bar and do his work, use there internet connection etc., and got to know a lot of the ladies as friends. He admittedly is a bit eccentric but I know for a fact he had no interest in sampling the wares.
