In as much as the original story is about meth, heroin and assault rifles, it's also about a 4-time deported illegal Mexican.

What is really abundant here in Hawaii is the meth, the heroin and the assault rifle.

But an illegal Mexican is in real short supply.

Which, being deported 4 times and ending up on the Big Island, means he got lots and lots of help.

There are a few religious groups with their own ocean-going ships operating in Hawaii. Would be easy to sneak someone in that way. Although I imagine one could use a "borrowed" ID to get past TSA too.
