RE: Blog/Bloggers - Necessary? - oink - 03-29-2009 ) Pua`a S. FL Big Islander to be. RE: Blog/Bloggers - Necessary? - missydog1 - 04-05-2009 hey csgray, thanks for that so articulate post. I was getting upset at seeing Punaweb labeled a blog. I'm a forum person. I like DISCUSSION, love interaction. Sorry to all of you who have personal blogs, but I cannot understand this need to put diaries online for all the world to see. OK, so it doesn't matter whether I understand it; it's a trend now and everyone is blogging, and I'm the dinosaur. [:p] If I did choose to blog for ME, I hope I would stay humble enough to be amazed if anyone took an interest other than my family and close friends. I get that becoming a "presence" on the island net world could be very exciting. It is too bad though when it's taken too seriously and conflict breaks out. As for replacing corporate-controlled journalism - now that is an evil that needs to be combatted, the censoring of information. However, journalism is a craft, and a profession, with a body of ethics, that people untrained in the profession don't always observe, so their pieces become Op-Ed that stand solo in a blog instead of reading as one of several letters. My main issue with blogs that are journalistic rather than personal, is that without free comments they do little to make me feel I've been given an alternative to controlled media reporting. It's still controlled. Yes, it is another viewpoint, and that is well and good. It's like some guy holding forth in a bar and asking everyone to listen to him but no one can join in. What's the fun in that except for the guy on center stage? What I do like about the blogs is they post photos. I wish Punaweb supported photos. Anyhow, to all you bloggers, blog on, but if you accept that your words are not THAT important except to some devoted followers, it would be in line with the reality. And that includes people like Kai who are freaking out about what Aaron has to say. It's not going to make or break the movement, Kai. I said I would enjoy blogs more if they were more like forums. But a blog is a personal endeavor, solely owned by the blogger, and they are not obligated to give you a forum to disagree or defend your position. RE: Blog/Bloggers - Necessary? - csgray - 04-05-2009 Since I posted that I have received multiple emails from Aaron Stene expressing his displeasure with my post and assuming I was talking about him specifically rather than bloggers generally. I am not sure if he doesn't remember who he emailed already or if he just wants to engage in a flame war via email but he sure took my comments personally! Carol RE: Blog/Bloggers - Necessary? - Aaron S - 04-05-2009 My blog isn't a diary! A diary is where you put your personal thoughts about events in your life only. My blog is something completely different. I'm simply trying to make this a better place by pointing out problems I see with infrastructure, politics, etc on my blog. RE: Blog/Bloggers - Necessary? - Aaron S - 04-05-2009 quote: I read your last post on this thread. It was certainly directed towards me there is no question in my mind that is the case. I only tried to e-mail you because I was trying to move the discussion away from here. Thus there wouldn't be more wasted bandwidth. I also tried to do same thing with Bob Orts and Greg. Only Greg bothered to e-mail me back. However he made things worse saying I work at worthless job, still live with my parents and have too much time on my hands. Geez Greg why don't throw the kitchen sink at me ! RE: Blog/Bloggers - Necessary? - Rob Tucker - 04-05-2009 Now Kids. Please play nice. Punaweb moderator RE: Blog/Bloggers - Necessary? - mdd7000 - 04-05-2009 quote:Very well said. I read thru all (now) 7 pages and read the "offending" blogs too, just to ease my curiosity. RE: Blog/Bloggers - Necessary? - missydog1 - 04-05-2009 Aaron, I do understand that your blog is not a personal diary. Neither is Damon's. I apologize if I seemed to lump them all together. There are so many blogs now, of all kinds, that I'm overwhelmed. I want my life to be simpler and so I have some rules like don't read personal blogs, don't IM, don't chat ... email and forum posts are enough for me, more than enough. I'm glad you're fighting the fight. I would just say don't get so caught up in getting appreciation for the time you spend, because ultimately it is YOUR hobby and you choose to do it. RE: Blog/Bloggers - Necessary? - Guest - 04-05-2009 Kathy - FWIW - I would call my blog a diary. I just leave it open to the public to see what I do and think about. I've got thick skin. If someone doesn't want to read about my life... I'm sure they will be much smarter in the long run for it. Aaron's blog is something that he writes because he's passionate about a few issues in particular and occasionally writes about personal issues. It doesn't make his view right or wrong, and he's not trying to say that he is right or wrong. He's just trying to tell people his side of the story of things from his viewpoint. I do find it a bit strange that he's getting bothered by all this balogna. But that's his prerogative. We all take things differently and have different levels of tolerance when were told something that we don't agree with. I think once you start a blog yourself (this goes out to anyone)... You will see just how free you are to really explore things that you are really passionate about. Or just go off about everything and anything without feeling restricted to limiting yourself for one reason or another.[ ![]() ![]() --------- FBI Blogs RE: Blog/Bloggers - Necessary? - missydog1 - 04-05-2009 I can see that, Damon. Not for me ... I rarely want to spill about my personal stuff on the net, and if I do I want to be talking directly to a specific person or persons, and getting a reply. I like dialogue. But I see the appeal, I guess. Great thing about the internet, such a diverse medium, something for everyone. btw, I have taken plenty of creative writing classes where I was told to keep a journal and/or do a lot of free writing, and I never wanted to or enjoyed it. It's just not my personality type. Others find it liberating. It's all good. |
