The permits that TMT does have are apparently worthless, because they do not actually allow construction to proceed. This is functionally equivalent to "not having" the required permits in a way that suggests that TMT does in fact "not have" the required permits.

It's really too bad the permits aren't backed by the rule of law.

The proper permits (printed on small greenish paper) have not been handed over to the Protectors, perhaps?

permits (printed on small greenish paper)

Wishful thinking: these "protectors" should get their "surcharge" written into the County Code so that future projects understand what is required of them and can plan accordingly.

The Walmart protests were 25 years ago; we have learned nothing since then.

The permits ARE in place, just not the right place.*

According to the latest news I can find all of the permits are not in place to build in the Canary Islands.

TMT Vice President Gordon Squires confirmed to the Tribune-Herald that a land concession deal was reached between TMT and Puntagorda, but added more permits and approvals are required before any construction could begin.

Environmentalists in Canary Islands: We’ll seek legal action to stop TMT...

Sure. Because one of the Canary Islands just endured a massive wildfire last August, which prompted evacuations & air quality warnings for a million residents there. But let’s protest a zero emission observatory. That’ll put our resources where they’re best required. That’ll improve the quality of life for citizens who can’t breathe.

Do protestors of this era not understand direct action? Actions which directly address a problem or problems? When we protested the Vietnam War in the 1960’s we brought our objections to the attention of the military and politicians. We didn’t blockade rice shipments to grocery stores.

At either location!

Does the TMT project have valid permits for both locations, or not?

Seems to me like The TMT project may have similar environmental and cultural issues at both locations. Also, over crowding may be an issue here as Both proposed TMT sites have several other large working telescopes on those needed mountain tops.

Also, Why would yearly land costs of prime viewing places in the world be so low or cheap?

What does a wildfire have to do with anything TMT related?
