RE: The Bicker Board - ironyak - 03-20-2026

HJ - Claiming you are not a boomer is quite frankly a hilarious joke as well as making you a big liar. You have been a member of PunaWeb for 17 years. If you are "not by a long shot" a "boomer" what, were you just learning to walk when you joined PunaWeb?
The usual lines have Boomers born 1946 - 1964, then Gen X in 1965 to 1980, and so forth. Keanu Reeves is a prototypical Gen-X (yes born late '64 but with Bill & Ted, Parenthood, Point Break, and The Matrix we claim him, come at me bro ;) so if I was of an age with Keanu I would have been ~45 when joining Punaweb in 2009, so very able to walk.

I'd venture to say that if you asked anyone in the generational name category outside that of "boomer" who Jimmy Carter was, I'd bet some serious cash you would hear, "oh yeah, that old guy who built houses for poor people" much less someone who can intimately define the "put on the sweater" comment Jimmy made as POTUS. A "not by a long shot" boomer watched Dr. Who and Soap? Maybe your tongue got in front of your eye teeth so you can't see what you are saying?
I took U.S. History classes, and had environmental studies that discussed the 1970s oil shocks and Carter's reactions to them, didn't you? Soap ran 1977 - 1981 (so Keanu and I could chill and watch it while we were 13-17, not to mention later reruns) and Doctor Who was a late night staple on the OTA PBS channel throughout my youth (and I still watch PBS - go check out the new Ken Burns American Revolution documentary, it's ono!)

As for Bill's take on Islam, again, listen to what he says.
He supported the arrest of a 14-year-old Muslim American for building a clock. I know y'all aren't too quick on the whole math and science thing, but supporting the arrest of brown kids with funny names for building clocks is pretty dumb, even for y'all.

As to define #woke ideology, it was originally something worthwhile. Pointing our social injustices, especially with the African American populations. But the best example I can provide came from you yourself. Calling Kane & now Wahine drunk drug users. Of course they must be. They may have once said something you did not agree with, was maybe a little far out, or supported right wing stuff, used AI, so, automatically, they are drunk drug users in your book. That's the #woke ideology you are employing. Painting everyone with a big huge brush, while you sit back in your hypocritical judgement of others.
Me pointing out the some people post to Punaweb while intoxicated is woke? Words have meanings you know, please connect the dots from the origins of "woke" in the 2014 BLM movement, to how me pointing out the obvious on Punaweb is "woke" (perpetual Punaweb question - are you drunk and/or stoned? ;)

So, you use a Windows based computer? OK Then you support a population reducing, microchip installing, forcing you to eat fake meat, blocking the sun, "new normal" billionaire. Oh, not windows but a MAC? OK then you support a paternity denying, employee berating, handicapped parking stall hog, "good artists borrow, great artists steal" philosophy billionaire.
What if I've never paid for DOS/Windows? (Don't Copy That Floppy!) What if I run one of the many free flavors of Linux? There are choices in what you support, there are always choices.

As for anything the racist bigot MyManao said about comparing me to Crissy Snow, from the TV show Three's Company, his intellect is way to shallow to understand the life the actress who played Crissy Snow, who stood up to the same misogynist and chauvinist pigs that MyManao is and demanded equal play to that of her co-star John Ritter and got fired for it, but then grew her personal net worth to over 100 million bucks by the time she died. But MyManao's misogynist and chauvinist pig brain uses that comparison only to make me be just a dumb uneducated ditzy blond girl which is what the character of Crissy Snow was.
Um, if you say so.

At any event, continue on being the pure and utter hypocrite you apparently are so proud to be. But, yeah, not by a long shot are you a boomer. Did you see that pig that just flew by?
Hypocrite because... I do like me some Pink Floyd and their flying pigs, but conversations like this are why most of the younger generations just end up at "Ok boomer..."

Wao nahele wahine - My my...I did ask you about your substance abuse statement. You keep pushing that envelope that one or both of us have posted in that state. WRONG.
Um, your other half has historically stated otherwise, way back at the beginning:
https://punaweb.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=5966&pid=90327&highlight=drunk#pid90327
"I’m posting while drunk so please go easy on me here,..."

To be clear, ainokea if people are posting while drunk, stoned, or having a moment - it's Puna, most people are probably drunk, stoned, or having a moment at any given minute either online or irl. But refusing to acknowledge this fact is just strange and we as readers have to take this into account when interpreting posts. Personally I find the POI (Posting On Intoxicants) interpretation pretty forgiving as everyone has likely said some odd things while being too deep into their cups and bowls, but if we have to assume all these ideas are the products of a stone cold sober mind, then larger questions and concerns have to be considered.

One post from Rob in 2017 regarding other posters possibly being drunk or stoned is hardly the same as Rob ALWAYS reminding us that posters may be drunk or stoned.
Rob has reminded us of this POI issue for Punaweb multiple times - in at least 2011, 2014, and 2017. He asks so little of us that when he instructs us to take this issue into consideration, I personally say aye, aye, oh captain, my captain (Dead Poet's Society 1989) and just make it part of my framework of interpretation for Punaweb.

Kane tried an experiment with the AI posts to see if it would fool anyone. Some of you handled it well, and some of you lashed out.
As MyManao questioned, care to offer examples of this "lashing out"? Personally it seemed more like everyone just played along with the bit for the lols, but I may have missed something. Thanks!

RE: The Bicker Board - HiloJulie - 03-20-2026

Getting old Yak.

I would have been ~45 when joining Punaweb in 2009

So you define "not by a long shot" of being a boomer, by being born around late 1964, at the tail end of the last year of being a "boomer?" Split hairs much? Or can't do the mathin right?

You sound like my "great nephew" (who is 8 years old) who claims and swears up and down his birthday is January 1, when actually, legally and in all honesty, it is officially recorded as December 31, 2018 at 11:59:45PM.

As for the Jimmy Carter "sweater" I was there when he said it. Saw some old dude named Walter who used to do a TV show every night. Being born in 1964, you should have seen it on the same TV show I watched, not had to learn about it in grade school history class.

As for the Bill Maher and the 14 year old Muslim arrested. Lets roll the tape. Let people be the judge of Bill being a supporter of the kids arrest. Note, while watching, Mark Cuban along with Chris Matthews, and former Gov. George Pataki agreeing to Bill's position on the whole matter. Also, being fair, note Jorge Ramos's disagreement. Where in any of this once can say Maher "supported" this kids arrest, is someone who has proven themselves to be uninformed, nor cares about truth. Just more insinuation.

And further, being clear, you INSINUATED that both Kane and Wahine were drunks and drug users. Kind of like if I were to ask you, hey, Yak, do you still beat your wife?

At any event, keep writing up your long winded missives of hypocrisy, how being a human who breaths is responsible for everything bad under the sun and sit on your high horse of judgement while you spew lie after lie, insinuation after insinuation, but being honest here, I am now thinking you are far more right hand crazy with minor left handed craziness mixed in.

Anything else I missed in reply, I could care less. Like the old saying about banging one's head on the wall. It feels great when you stop.

I’m posting while drunk so please go easy on me here,
Sounds like it's time to subdivide Hawaii County into 3 or possibly 4 counties (no picking on me for that comment). There's far too much $ handed to the one county to address the needs of the entire region properly, things as I've seen are far too "lopsided" with regard to county funding application.
Time to grow a bit by government standards (I really hate that too, seriously). Either that or the county needs to restructure to meet the vast region it represents. I really don't know yet... I need to get back there again and figure it out, so I remain ignorant on that count.
Anyhow; I was just curious if there was a group or committee in place to fix up Pahoa Town.
If there is...
I volunteer my labor services, less materials cost... to fix up the front of any building out there. Wood work, paint, window replacement, etc...
Anyone on here who owns a building on the main road out there.. write me and when I get there, I'll help you get it perked up and like it was in its glory days all while building our new house if need be.

For those not aware of what can happen when an old place is restored or a theme introduced to a town...
Check out Leavenworth Wa. for a classic example. I'd really hate to see anymore of that steel building strip mall crap grow out there like that place off 130... that is the wrong approach and will, no doubt, backfire in the long run.
See: http://www.leavenworth.org/modules/pages...p?pageid=1
This is a great example of what can happen to an otherwise worthless town (no insult intended) if it's nurtured properly. An example of what I meant by that, it means Leavenworth, Wa. Would be a gas station and a burger joint had they not adopted what they did.
Pahoa has the heritage to be something very noteworthy in the future.

Considering we were flying to Hilo in the morning, I'm taking Kane's drunk comment as a joke after having a beer that night. Anything in his post sound like a drunk? How about his other posts in that thread? We were flying to Hilo that following morning. We don't get drunk before or while flying. As for Rob's three comments you linked to...the 2014 link doesn't work. The other two links we weren't involved in those conversations.

I haven't refused to acknowledge that people might post while impaired. Your logic is impaired in that regard. I won't acknowledge that Kane and/or I routinely or typically post while impaired by any type of intoxicant. Why? Because it isn't true.

eta: Substance abuse is not the same as having a drink or two several times a year.

RE: The Bicker Board - ironyak - 03-20-2026

Wao nahele wahine - Considering we were flying to Hilo in the morning, I'm taking Kane's drunk comment as a joke after having a beer that night.
Neat, as we're neither in his head nor in his house, we're stuck taking him at his word. Again, I don't really care, but if you present yourself as needing to get drunk (for surviving South Florida - I feel ya) then we as readers take this into account per Rob's repeated observation of Punaweb posters and his repeated requests to keep this possibility in consideration.

As for Rob's three comments you linked to...the 2014 link doesn't work.
The 4, that I know of, work for me:
- 2011: "On any given day people show up here in good moods, good health, bad moods, bad health and stinky drunk. You never know what's going on for sure"

- 2014: "Sometimes I think people might be drunk or stoned as they write.... I can't tell. But if people or rude behavior become egregiously offensive or repetitive on someone's part I will try to rein it in."

- 2017: "I try to remind myself that on any given day someone is happy, someone is unhappy, someone just got bad news, someone is drunk, the whole range of life."

- 2017 - 2: "Ya gotta talk in a few things in consideration of every post. Not everyone is you. At any given moment some will be happy, sad, ill, angry, hungry, drunk, stoned or simultaneously watching Sponge Bob.

I could point you to where other people referenced Rob on this matter (like this) showing it's not just me that heard this message loud and clear, but don't think you really care.

The other two links we weren't involved in those conversations.
Again neat, but some of us read those threads and listened. Just because you're not aware of Rob's repeated notes on this matter doesn't mean they don't exist for everyone else.

I won't acknowledge that Kane and/or I routinely or typically post while impaired by any type of intoxicant. Why? Because it isn't true.
I didn't say routinely or typically, only that we as readers have to consider the possibility given the evidence. You say Kane doesn't drink regularly, cool, then why all the "look at me blocking the libtard users" and "you're only talking to an AI" trolling? He's just naturally an ass, even sober?

eta: Substance abuse is not the same as having a drink or two several times a year.
I (and others it seemed to me), were hoping Kane was just knocking a few back and playing the fool with his gambols, his songs, his flashes of merriment, that were wont to set the table on a roar. If he's not POI, then he's just kinda being a dick several times a year, don't you think?

Any examples of that "lashing out" yet? Still trying to figure out what you're seeing that I am not.

HJ - So you define "not by a long shot" of being a boomer, by being born around late 1964,
I never said I was born in 64, I said I could be like Keanu (which was mostly an attempt to drag Edge into the Bicker Board - but he's too disciplined to fall for such obvious snares ;) or born anytime afterwards and still not be a boomer. I could have been born in 1980, and 29 when I joined Punaweb and so still able to walk.

As for Bill and the 14-year-old kid with the clock, that boomer circle jerk is just them showing how dumb and arrogant they all are (where's the explosive package nitwits? Lots of mechanism and no explosive does not a bomb make). Clearly they don't know the first thing about what a bomb actually looks like but reinforce each other in their common stupidity to justify Texas arresting a 14-year-old Muslim kid with an ethnic name...

Anything else I missed in reply, I could care less.
Doesn't understand generational categories, lacks reading comprehension, can't do math, but blames the youth for their confusion... ok, boomer. (or maybe you're just intoxicated - have another on me before the next attempt at a retort :)

Talks in circles and absolutes, makes excuses and is never wrong, blames everyone but yourself, and of course, everyone who you disagree with is a drunk/druggie. Typical right wing response from a pretend lefty who rides that pendulum like its a roller coaster ride.

Borrowing MyMano's extensive use of calling Tom this, and with apologies to Tom, but god you're an asshole.

Now come up with more insinuations, absolutes and excuses before your next retort.

ETA:

You once said this: (I have made the text bold to emphasize the point being made)

One of the local impacts I don't believe has been mentioned, was the loss of the community grant to deal with clearing power lines immediately adjacent to Waikoloa Village, considered the most dangerous stretch of power lines on island, and fourth most dangerous in the state. The funding cut was done in the name of "Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing.” Apparently not wanting thousands of structures and hundreds more people to burn in a wildfire is too woke now.

Lahaina - what is past is prologue.

Having not seen all the deleted messages, I really don't know MyManao's intent, and don't presume to guess. Probably a prototypical example of when to assume the best, and ask questions. Smile

Now you say this:

See the flip flops? The hypocrisy? Fitting the narrative to suit your propagandist spiel? Forgetting what you said? (Boomer alert, boomer alert!)

Like Maher says to the left wing crazies who get mad at him for say having a dinner with the High Mighty King of America, "I haven't changed, YOU have!"

I have always been, currently am and forever will be in the dead center Yak. You just need to stop swinging on that pendulum like you are trying to ring the bells at St. Peter's Basilica when a new Pope gets elected!

Cute...more insults with some reading comprehension issues thrown in as a change of pace.  Kane and I lived together in 2009, so your assumption that I wasn't in his house....WRONG.  Not sure why you're mentioning South Florida...we didn't live there.  Nevermind...found your link. The hellish trip he had in Florida. Any idea how creepy you are being? You have found a whopping 2 instances where Kane has drank alcohol....OMG! Substance abuse! You don't speak for every poster on Punaweb.

You only think he's being a dick because you fell for the grok...lol

Lashing out...insults...making that connection yet with your broad educational background?

RE: The Bicker Board - ironyak - 03-20-2026

HiloJulie - Talks in circles and absolutes, makes excuses and is never wrong, blames everyone but yourself, and of course, everyone who you disagree with is a drunk/druggie."
I'm not going in circles - maybe slow down and do a re-read. And what absolutes? "Only a Sith deals in absolutes." (Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005) Not everyone who disagrees with me is a drunk/druggie, but some of them drink and/or do drugs. So what?

Typical right wing response from a pretend lefty who rides that pendulum like its a roller coaster ride.
Ouch, and after all that time planting trees on Earth Day, and recycling near everything, and watching Farm Aid, and boycotting South Africa, and graffiti-ing political messages, and advocating for ELF to save those trees and owls, and supporting the EFF, and staging walk-outs for the Gulf War, and protesting for animal rights at the local big pharma companies, and blocking the new Starbucks next to our favorite local coffee shop (never have drank Starbucks because of this), and sign waving along the road next to the local nuclear weapons facility, and reading all those Adbuster mags,  and battling at the G7 GTOWTO meetings, and voting for Nader, and protesting the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and reading all those Naomi Klein books and the theanarchistlibrary, and doing Occupy and mutual aid in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, and building homes with Habitat for Humanity, and volunteering at food banks and The Hub, and wearing those pink pussy hats, and helping move people out of Leilani in 2018 while developing the community lava map, and growing my own food, and building my own solar system, and buying almost exclusively used clothes and tech objects, and advocating for legislation addressing human needs in Hawai'i, and posting about and attending another several more recent protests, but the opinion of some rando boomer online has really made me question my beliefs.

Borrowing MyMano's extensive use of calling Tom this, and with apologies to Tom, but god you're an asshole.
Because I pointed out your misunderstandings? Figured that would be useful so as to facilitate learning.

Yak - I'm going to do the somewhat odd (and apparently unpopular thing) and defend HiloJulie on this thread as she is actually providing useful information and discussing the thread's topic. Because I don't deal in absolutes, I have to note differences in your behavior at different times and on different subjects. You're the one flip-flopping - you sometimes add cogent information, other times you can't follow the most basic info (like the fact that the end of the boomer generation birth dates is all the way back in 1964 so lots of people, actually a majority now, are not boomers - not sure why you're so surprised and refuse to believe you've met a non-boomer like myself). So assuming the best, and asking questions - is your erratic behavior because you're "happy, sad, ill, angry, hungry, drunk, stoned or simultaneously watching Sponge Bob?"

Like Maher says to the left wing crazies who get mad at him for say having a dinner with the High Mighty King of America, "I haven't changed, YOU have!"
Maher thinks Bernie, the guy trying to actually secure healthcare and education for all Americans, is "a cancer", which just shows how narrow minded the status quo centrist libs can be. As a "left wing crazy" I'm not tolerant of violence against women, but Bill is apparently, so maybe take up your issues with him and see how far they fly with your centrist lib hero (just be sure not to cry like he says women do to get their way)?

Wow, I missed that earlier post about the Lahaina wildfire prevention funding being cut for DEI. That is depressing.
