RE: New, Improved Pohoiki? - snorkle - 11-13-2018 People have lived here happily and productively for a thousand years. They flourished because they created a sustainable lifestyle. It's almost as if instead of trying to alter their environment; they adapted and utilized the gifts that they had available. People are always going to live here. There's just been a thinning of the herd. RE: New, Improved Pohoiki? - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-13-2018 Who needs Highway 132? Or Highway 137? If you have a cool $150,000 burning a hole in your cargo short's big front/back/top/bottom pockets, an electric hoverbike is just what you need for your afternoon Pohoiki adventure. Flies a "safe" 16 feet off the ground, tops out at 60 mph (so is exempt from FAA regulations), and even has a Hawaiian sounding name - - The HoverSurf: https://www.nbcnews.com/mach/science/hoverbikes-are-finally-here-don-t-expect-fly-cheap-ncna935191 There's nothing like it, it's not a drone, you're not on the lava, so it's the perfect vehicle for (maybe) legally checking out the LERZ. If the DNLR tried stopping you long enough so they could drum up some charges (boss, maybe the guy has a camera?), you could just keep going. How would they follow? RE: New, Improved Pohoiki? - Rob Tucker - 11-13-2018 That HoverSurf has no cup holder. RE: New, Improved Pohoiki? - kalianna - 11-13-2018 And no safety sticker. Cite 'em, Danno. RE: New, Improved Pohoiki? - dan d - 11-14-2018 More better make one that goes underwater. No cops will get u there. Lolha HPP RE: New, Improved Pohoiki? - kalakoa - 11-14-2018 County has made it pretty clear that their authority doesn't extend to the sky, the ocean, or any government inholding (Federal enclave, DHHL land, etc). RE: New, Improved Pohoiki? - mikewj - 11-14-2018 Be sure that if you bought a $150K Hoverbike, County would buy at least two (with our money) and keep the spare on blocks, like the double decker bus. Or keep it parked on the roadside, like the new tractors I see daily in the same places when I go to Hilo. RE: New, Improved Pohoiki? - MarkP - 11-14-2018 People mutilate themselves with power tools all the time. This would be 100 times worse. Look at those propellers! So, 0 to 59 mph over rough lava?
