A bit sanctimonious aren't we?

This is getting really pathetic, Lack you truly "lack" any humbleness or civility towards others you deem as beneath you. My "Nationality" (or race) should not make a difference as to whether your comment is offensive to me. You could have made everything a bit more transparent if you just explained yourself on how you feel this joke is funny to you.

It seems that Rob is spot on with his explanation of why you would post such a trollish comment, to get a reaction, make some of us feel uncomfortable at the least, and to generally bring some confrontation to the forum. Great job buddy! If I had made a statement that was taken the wrong way on this forum I would want to clear up any confusion and explain my true intention. You show not even a hint of remorse that your comment bothers many here on punaweb, instead you appear to get defensive and more argumentative which is very revealing.

Mr. Lack I do want to say that I have been thinking about my first post on this thread and I'm disappointed with myself for putting down your cartoons. It is your creative outlet, and I should have left that alone.

If you make a racist "joke" and post it on a public forum you have to expect people are going to voice their concern and disapproval. This is Punaweb, not TEA PARTY web, keep your 1950's sense of humor to your own site. I do stand by my original statement of not wanting to support your Huli Huli chicken though because you see my wife is one of those "can's" you joke about shooting, and my daughter is half a "can" so I don't think we are likely to patronize your business, and that sucks because my wife really likes Chicken!

I feel like you have succeeded in one positive aspect here and that is of opening up race discussion which is often avoided. I don't know whether you are a racist or not, and I certainly would not call you one without hearing more about your real intention with your joke or if you truly find shooting other races funny. To those of you who excuse Lack's bonehead comment I feel just as much offense from your approval or dismissal of it really being a harmless joke.

So please Lack explain how you think that your comment is funny and maybe the "self appointed political correctness police" won't be disturbed by your jokes involving shooting other races with B.B. guns. BTW I would never consider myself to be a politically correct person, nor would those that know me, I just don't tolerate racist comments.

We had a question about a person's first BB gun. It was followed by a joke.

Some took offense to the joke used as part of the question. Others can’t understand the uproar over a joke.

My personal belief:
The joke was the message. The BB gun question was just the means to bring in the comment disguised as a joke.

I agree with Paikkala Puna; people can argue all they want about jokes, political correctness, humor or whatever, but none of that can hide the truth, a redneck racist post is still a redneck racist post regardless of the bull**** prelude they used to get their message across.

Explain?! Explain a joke?! You guys must be kidding! I think this thread already got way out of line and has no purpose anymore. I certainly am sorry to see the personal attacks.

C'mon, do any of you really think Tom is offended by being called a troll or anything else on Punaweb?

He's a pot-stirrer and he's probably beside himself at agitating people that don't share his worldview.

But the discussion created by Mauka's post isn't a bad thing. Not a bad idea to get people to define their own beliefs from time to time whether they bother to post them on Punaweb or not.

PBS had a 3 part documentary called Race: The Power of an Illusion that is very thought provoking. So are both Journey of Man (about Spencer Wells' tracking of the human genome) and National Geographic's The Human Family Tree, a more recent documentary in which Wells samples an assortment of New Yorkers' DNA and maps their genetic family tree. All of these show how little difference there really is between us humans at the genetic level, it is just a tiny fraction of our DNA that controls the outward appearances that people consider "racial characteristics".

Just curious, John, but do these "attacks" that you are sorry to see include the ones made by you? Hey, you're sounding like one o' them do gooders.
Attacks made by me?! Please be kind enough to indicate my "attacking" post(s) so I would know what you are talking about. Mahalo!
