The very notion that someone has a perpetual right to a place because "they were there first" is profoundly racist. And in this case, considering the history of Tahitians conquering and enslaving the original Marquesan Hawaiians, it wouldn't even apply.

I put a lot of weight behind Rich Matsuda's opinion. There's a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that most people don't know about and Rich is leading that effort to make both sides find a compromise. He's highly respected by those on both sides of the argument and I hope he's given time to help find a solution. This situation is not as simple as many think it is and there are genuine arguments on both sides.

I've no idea what you mean by this. Rich's letter is about astronomy on Maunakea and how we can all go forward.

I don't see why I should answer that question because you've made it specific to the TMT. Rich Masuda's letter is about astronomy on the Big Island and Hawaii in general. One of the big questions now is whether astronomy continues on Mauna Kea with or without the TMT.
