RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - 'elepaio - 02-15-2022 Mr.Tom, I have noticed a large percentage of your posts that you respond to have you asking " what does that even mean ? " Or similarly, have you picking nits on spelling or Grammer. Maybe time for you to go back to school. We are a varied bunch here on Punaweb. Please respect others opinions, writing, and dialects instead of tearing them down for not fitting in your ear molds. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - kalakoa - 02-15-2022 Matsuda's letter advocates using the TMT controversy as a forum for Native Hawaiian disenfranchisement. Realize that the term "Native Hawaiian" was invented as a way to divide people by implying that some Hawaiians are pure, legitimate descendants of the original "true" Hawaiians while others are not. I ask, again, who are "the" Hawaiians, and who is "authorized" to speak for them as their representative? Without such authority, how can there be any substantive negotiation? RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 02-15-2022 Without such authority, how can there be any substantive negotiation? Using Rob’s description of district planning sessions in Pahoa as an example, political representatives show up for a meeting, do their thing, then wait until residents & voters start arguing among themselves. Politicians excuse themselves, residents continue arguing because there’s no authority in the disparate group that remains, and nothing gets accomplished. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - AaronM - 02-15-2022 (02-15-2022, 07:14 AM)TomK Wrote: It's as if you've read the wrong book and savaged a thesaurus at the same time. Seriously, what does the following mean" He talks about "health, education, housing, economic opportunity, criminal justice, and the exhausting struggle to defend Hawaiian identity" Those are 6 issues that should be addressed directly and individually and each one has absolutely nothing to do with MK or TMT. The issue is the future of astronomy on the mountain and Matsuda has a hard time staying on topic. Any Questions? RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - TomK - 02-17-2022 No questions. Matsuda is pointing out the issues that will likely stop the TMT from being built and perhaps end astronomy on Mauna Kea. They need to be addressed in some way and that is what Matsuda is trying to do, and those points are absolutely relevant to the future of astronomy in Hawaii whether you like it or not. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - AaronM - 02-17-2022 Not that I believe it but if it truly is the case that "those points are absolutely relevant to the future of astronomy in Hawaii", then I suggest you and your colleagues start looking at real estate elsewhere. If the TMT ultimately fails here then Keck and the rest will not survive beyond 2033. If the Canaries option also proves to be a dead end then I'm not sure if there are enough seats at the remaining facilities to absorb the MK staff. Is it possible that the Hawaiian astronomical community is acquiescing itself right out of a job? RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - randomq - 02-17-2022 TomK buying into the protesters narrative. Never thought I would see the day... RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - kalakoa - 02-17-2022 If the TMT ultimately fails here then Keck and the rest will not survive beyond 2033. I wonder about the scope and fallout. Will the protestors take their "win" or find something else that needs to be shut down? Will any business invest in Hawaii knowing their efforts are subject to the whims of a random unelected citizen "sacredness posse" who need not bother following the rules and laws that are for everyone else? RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 03-03-2022 Good riddance, thanks to a Big Island legislator: Maunakea bill unlikely to pass: Inouye says the measure will die in her committee A state House bill that would create a new management entity for Maunakea was approved Wednesday by three committees, but the legislation likely will be dead on arrival in the Senate. https://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2022/03/03/hawaii-news/maunakea-bill-unlikely-to-pass-inouye-says-the-measure-will-die-in-her-committee/ RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - AaronM - 03-03-2022 Usual Politricks.
