RE: Dengue state of emergency - knieft - 04-21-2016 Any one have thoughts on how dengue has repeated gone away, apparently on it's own? Unless someone really thinks everyone in all affected areas completely rid their properties and those surrounding them of all stagnant water. Was it the drought? Cheers, Kirt RE: Dengue state of emergency - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 04-21-2016 Was it the drought? I would think the dry weather was our greatest ally in the fight against dengue. I can't remember such a long period of time with so few mosquitoes. Exactly: http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/topnews/no-new-dengue-cases-three-weeks-governor-extends-emergency-declaration The extension of the emergency period "allows us to actually continue with our overall statewide response for vector planning," he said. "We can still request federal assistance, and it allows us to potentially tap into the major disaster fund, the rainy day fund." RE: Dengue state of emergency - knieft - 04-21-2016 quote: Wonder if the other outbreak cessations correlated with droughts. And if it is the relative presence/absence of droughts that makes the difference in mosquito-bourne illnesses becoming endemic or not... Glad it looks like its over for now. Secretly administered vaccines sprayed from the black helicoptors? Or perhaps the drought induced by global warming? So many conspiracies - take your pick Some specific areas had to wait 2 - 3 momths after the last reported case to be reopened so we probably have several more weeks before a declaration of the end of hostilities. RE: Dengue state of emergency - Tom.Yost - 04-21-2016 Wasn't the transition made to a generic mosquito born virus emergency to address the zika virus? RE: Dengue state of emergency - leilanidude - 04-21-2016 "We can still request federal assistance, and it allows us to potentially tap into the major disaster fund, the rainy day fund." ----------- Which brings up the point... Why was Harry Kim, as a highly paid managing director of Civil Defense, allowed to have overtime pay? Wasn't he a salaried manager? Why would any county director be allowed overtime pay? It sure doesn't happen in the private sector. RE: Dengue state of emergency - PaulW - 05-13-2016 Last chance to dump tires at the transfer stations this Sunday (May 15) - if I read the sign correctly RE: Dengue state of emergency - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-08-2016 A low cost and effective method of locating Dengue Fever has been developed and adapted for "nations lacking the resources to effectively monitor the spread of diseases." It discovers incidents of dengue two weeks before an outbreak has time to establish itself and spread. Perhaps it would work in Hawaiian counties with limited resources and health department personnel? The system is communication based, so it may also work for containing the zika virus as well. How long did it take the health department to realize dengue was spreading across the island last year? Was it 2 months? 4 months? NEW YORK, July 8 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Researchers have developed a new method to pinpoint outbreaks of dengue fever by tracking phone calls to public health hotlines, a team of scientists said on Friday. Analyzing patterns of calls in Pakistan's Punjab region, the researchers forecast suspected dengue cases up to two weeks ahead of time with block-by-block accuracy, the researchers said in a study published in the journal Science Advances. The low-cost statistical method to track dengue is particularly adapted for nations lacking the resources to effectively monitor the spread of diseases, said the scientists from the United States, Pakistan and United Arab Emirates. http://news.trust.org/item/20160708180043-9yfsg/?source=hpOtherNews1 “There are worse crimes than burning books.
