Otherwise, all we would have is a boring, linear blog from malihini

This thread is clearly titled "Discoveries by the telescopes on Mauna Kea." It should allow perceptive Punaweb readers to skip over the topic if Hawaii based astronomy is of no interest to them. Most newspapers and magazines follow this standard as well by their use of headlines. If the headline does not pique your interest, there's no need to read the rest of the article, then feel warranted to write a letter to the editor with a complaint that the publication wasted your valuable time.

But far be it for me to tell you what to do. Go ahead and send a note whenever it seems justified, along with a request to cancel your subscription.

Personally, I'd enjoy topics where fellow Punatics discuss their jobs and fields. Always more to learn.

HOTPE,

Hungover or too early ? Either way, totally missing my point.

Sleep it off and come back laterz

The point is Rob has made a point of insisting on ONLY Puna related. He has censored me multiple times for this reason. The other people he has censored know this. And no doubt, the topics do go off kilter, Punatic style.

So, yeah, the Mauna Kea observatories are on Hawaii island, possibly 10 people in Puna work directly on the mountain. However, the discoveries, which are announced by way of reports, have almost zero to do with Puna, other than it is part of the universe (despite some people arguing against that, too). The peer-reviewed reports are the currency of astronomy and the economy associated with that currency is mostly off this island. Yeah, now that Tommy has learned the Internetz, he should make a sig for his blog and put the vast amount going on in astronomy, in general.

Hawaii and Puna only? Policy or right-wing hypocrisy?

We all have different interests. I find the discoveries made on Mauna Kea (in Hawaii) much more interesting than whether a new restaurant (in Puna) uses a sauce that is too spicy or diluted or bright orange on a plate of noodles. I appreciate this thread about Hawaii based explorations of dark matter galaxies, exoplanets, and other incredible findings by people, organizations, and their support network here on Hawaii Island. I believe other people do as well.

Why not go ahead and start a thread that does that? I see no problem with your suggestion and don't know why you're asking for permission. In the meantime, this is a thread about discoveries made using the observatories on Mauna Kea, which happens to be in Hawaii and involves lots of people that work at the observatories and also live here. What's your problem with that?

The known population of the solar system keeps growing. Recent observations on telescopes including the Subaru Telescope on Mauna Kea have discovered some previously unknown trans-Neptunian objects (those beyond the orbit of Neptune). This is important as it helps narrow down the search for the proposed "planet 9", a large planet that is thought to exist about 200 times farther from the sun than the Earth.

PUNAweb, yeah, no matter how far away and off from Puna, just keep "thread" ****ing in Mauna Kea every post then you good right ?

I bet Rob would love to have a nice cross section of REAL, local residents talking story here rather than a few entitled bullies dominating every post.

Alas, Punaweb is what it is.

Immediate ETA ... Sorry Rob did not know w123ing word was on some kind of filter list. Will never happen again.
