RE: School Walkouts - Eric1600 - 03-19-2018 PaulW you're wasting your time arguing with them. Until something dramatic happens to them personally they won't understand or even want to listen to you. I've seen gun violence up close multiple times and I've lived in countries where firearms are illegal and I can tell you those countries where they are completely illegal there is a lot less aggression and obviously less random killing. In the US there are about 96 people killed a day from gun violence or 13,000 a year. For every 1 person killed with a gun, 2 are injured by guns. Nearly 2/3rd are mentally unstable people killing themselves and sometimes others. More than 50% of women killed by their partners are killed by guns. America’s gun homicide rate is more than 25 times the average of other high-income countries. People who don't see this as a problem, frankly have a problem. And if you still don't think these kids are making a difference, see Fred Myer's decision to stop selling guns. In my experience less guns = more safe. I've also personally had friends who've had their guns they used for protection used against them. The influx of mainlanders bringing more guns and their gun culture to Hawaii is a bad thing for everyone. RE: School Walkouts - PaulW - 03-19-2018 https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mississippi-girl-shot-to-death-younger-brother-video-game-controller/ It’s too late to save the mainland, let’s try to stop it here. Thanks Eric, I have no illusions. I lost all hope after Sandy Hook but the Floridians have made me wonder if maybe we can stop the madness one day. RE: School Walkouts - MattKarma - 03-19-2018 It just takes one person with a gun who decides that guns are a bad thing to prove that guns are a bad thing. Noone will worry about that ten years after the ships stop coming, though. ***Still can't figure out how to spell 'car' correctly*** RE: School Walkouts - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 03-19-2018 you're wasting your time arguing with them I agree. If they can't be bothered to find out what's happening at their own child's school a few miles down the road, what effort might they expend in understanding the economic and political landscape of Australia, early American History from 100-250 years ago, or even factual current events without the easy does it, spoon-full-of-bias TV talking heads lined up in boxes across their screen explaining what those events REALLY mean? I said, ‘Wrong, Justin (Trudeau), you do.’ I didn’t even know. ... I had no idea. I just said, ‘You’re wrong.’ - President Donald J. Trump, 3/14/18 RE: School Walkouts - Guest - 03-19-2018 In the meantime, the first fatality via a Self-Driving car just occurred. And YES there was a 'driver' inside. Go figure. RE: School Walkouts - Kapoho Joe - 03-19-2018 quote: Blame the mainlanders and keep your head in the sand about how many guns were here long before the 'mainland horde' began to invade. Locals here have a penchant for the AK variant like I have never seen anywhere else. Ever drive out to the Saddle Road range or the Manuka Park range? Not so many pale faces... RE: School Walkouts - PaulW - 03-19-2018 I would like to see that. Can anyone visit? When would be a good time to go? RE: School Walkouts - leilanidude - 03-19-2018 quote: http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2018/03/02/hawaii-news/cleared-for-use-dlnr-working-on-rules-signs-for-islands-only-public-shooting-range/ You just might see a group of responsible gun owners, practicing marksmanship and safe handling of the weapons. RE: School Walkouts - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 03-19-2018 a group of responsible gun owners, practicing marksmanship Isn't that what most people want? Gun owners who can aim, and use their acquired skill as a sportsman would? So when he/she goes hunting, their prey has a sporting chance (hence the term sportsman) and is brought down due to the hunters ability and aptitude? Not needing to fire 10 or 50 bullets in a few seconds so he/she might hit something? One might question the psychological state of a person who could find any sense of accomplishment or satisfaction in something as undemanding as that. Trump, 3/14/18 RE: School Walkouts - PaulW - 03-19-2018 "A valid hunting license or watershed permit is required to enter the area." So much for that, or does nobody check? I last went to a rifle range a long time ago and I wasn't impressed, accidents just waiting to happen. Hopefully it's different here. |
