RE: Largest Price increase you have seen ? - HawaiiEV - 03-01-2022 I’ve got a reservation on the Silverado EV. I love the avalanche and always said they should make an ev of it, bingo I win. RE: Largest Price increase you have seen ? - 'elepaio - 03-01-2022 Thanks for the real world info EV. Can u think of any model from several years ago that could, on a single charge drive from HPP to Kona, back to HPP, then to Hilo & back again to HPP ? And + 100 on the keiki comment. mahalo RE: Largest Price increase you have seen ? - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 03-02-2022 Can u think of any model from several years ago … Real world info. The first example I cited, Puna>Kona>Puna>Hilo>Puna is a 2+ year old Hyundai Kona. Appropriate model for this discussion. RE: Largest Price increase you have seen ? - HawaiiEV - 03-02-2022 I’m sure it’s possible with careful slow driving, maybe not using AC. Range is increasing especially for luxury EVs, but most are having a hard enough time paying for regular cars below $50k. There are plenty of cars that go 200 mph at $100k+ but I wouldn’t go around telling people that cars can go 200 mph when most can just get over 100. Range anxiety is real and the difference between a car going 200 miles or less and 500 is huge. Charging takes time, filling gas takes 5 min. Real world range for most entry level EVs near $50k is about 200-250 so enough to get to Kona and back carefully, but that leaves you with an empty battery and no reserve. Again battery range decreases during the life of the car, what might be enough to get to Kona now might not be enough in 6 years, especially if you are regularly filling to 100% and emptying to 0% RE: Largest Price increase you have seen ? - My 2 cents - 03-02-2022 ..."maybe not using AC" I saw an article MANY years ago that said that driving with windows down actually consumes more gas than having the AC on because of the additional drag. I don't know if it's still true, or even if it was true back then, but it makes sense. RE: Largest Price increase you have seen ? - HawaiiEV - 03-02-2022 It does. people who Hypermile EVs keep the windows up and ac running minimally if at all. If you need that extra 10-15 miles range it might be worth it. RE: Largest Price increase you have seen ? - randomq - 03-02-2022 Plug-in hybrids seem ideal, but most Hawaiians would have no problem with an EV as their commuter vehicle and for the occasional trip around the island. RE: Largest Price increase you have seen ? - malahini - 03-02-2022 I guess this thread went really off the rails. I haven't been following it. I don't drive much except once in a blue moon for an appointment or if I'm picking up new building materials. When I do go to Hilo or Kona I always bring coolers with me and fill them full of food and I have three chest freezers in my garage I store stuff in. I would rather have the range and ability to blast AC and pay for the gas since I don't have to do it say every day for work. If I had to drive to work every day I would definitely consider an EV, assuming I got electricity breaks and/or was charged off of solar. RE: Largest Price increase you have seen ? - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 03-02-2022 Inflation is killing us, almost as bad as the unwarranted markups that businesses can conveniently blame on inflation: Source for graph: https://www.wsj.com/articles/car-dealerships-dont-want-your-cashthey-want-to-give-you-a-loan-11646113637 RE: Largest Price increase you have seen ? - malahini - 03-02-2022 Glad I got a car right before the chip shortage. |
