RE: Introduce yourself - Cindy V - 02-28-2006

Hi all, I'm Cindy and my husband and I bought an acre in LE in Oct. We are moving through the permitting process now, materials are being ordered and we'll be there in April for the clearing. Construction to begin in May. We currently reside in CA, south of SF in the Santa Cruz area. We will be moving once our home in CA sells, it goes up in June. We'll rent until our home is done. My elderly mom will be making the trip with us, we are building an ohana for her, our two daughters are coming with us in April to see if they want to make the move with us, don't know. One is 18 and a college student, the other a Vet. Nurse, 25 yrs. We'll see. Also moving with us is a watch-cat, (has cornered many visitors he thought should not be in our house) and a great old blind diabetic golden retriever. I've been enjoying the posts and all the information, thought it time I register and join on in.

Aloha Cindy, My neighbors just up the street are from Santa Cruz, will be moving here permanently in a few months. Also, I put up a house in HPP a couple years back, sold it to a couple from Santa Cruz. Both couples did't know each other, but knew a lot of the same people.. small world, Big Island !

RE: Introduce yourself - Cindy V - 03-01-2006

You got that right, someone saw a post on another forum and responded that our stories sounded alike, turns out she is from Santa Cruz and bought in LE, unfortuneatly they cannot move for another year or so, but have rented their place. Hope to meet you perhaps at a Punaweb party! We met "hookupu" the same way, met up with him during our Nov. trip, he also lent us his machete for some clearing we did on our own.

Aloha and your right, small world, big Island and I cannot wait to be there!!!!

RE: Introduce yourself - Kapohocat - 03-03-2006

I am Cat - no really...lol... I work in the building supply industry ready to make a change to just dealing directly with owners & plans... running plans for approvals, giving out suggestions for builders, site guys etc. Everyone is at their happiest the day they start and the day they get their final!! ha ha Trying to move away from the middle part or actual material supply part. Just starting a new business to just do that part.

I have lived on the Big Island both East side and West side (when rent was $800 in Puako!!!) for 18 years. Love both sides - but Kapoho is my favorite! Catch the green flash in the morning on this side.

Well, if the person who is supposed to be providing that kind of service to me doesn't get it together soon, Kapohocat, I'll be in touch. I have a lot in Kapoho with a tide pool on it that I want to build on (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, here I come). Its on the Vacationland side on Kahi Loli.

RE: Introduce yourself - Carolann R - 03-12-2006

Okay, I tried to post before and had some trouble (make room the the lame couch!) so here I am again. I'm Carrie and my husband is Tony. We made the decision last October to make the move to the BI...we have been doing a total remodel on our home and decided to go ahead and finish it and sell and buy in Puna. My mother had her right leg taken below the knee in November. We sold her home and moved her in with us (remember, DURING the remodel). We have two kids that we share with their mother that lives 2 miles away. The 14 year old daughter is "acting out" and so now we have put our move on hold. She needs us. Originally we were hoping to have the home on the market in January and be in Hawaii by March or April. Not gonna happen. I know it is coming. I just don't know when. Had to leave my job of six years with an Airline to stay at home with my mother. Just trying to enjoy the process and keep from getting too sad about still being here in Arizona when I wanna be in Hawaiian Shores! You guys are great. You keep my vision alive. Thanks for all your great stories and advice.

Your future neighbor,

Carrie Rojo

RE: Introduce yourself - PunaPaula - 03-12-2006

Aloha Punatics! I've been lurking awhile so thought it was time to introduce myself when I noticed my new friend Cindy V mentioned me in one of her posts. Like Cindy V, I'm from Santa Cruz and my husband and I have just purchased our retirement home in Leilani. Our plan is to rent it for a year and finally move home in early 2007. It has been more difficult than we thought to stay on the mainland for this year, knowing that our beautiful home awaits our arrival. We were so lucky to have found wonderful friends/renters to stay in our home while we're away and that makes it a little easier.

Thank you all for the valuable information posted on this forum. At this point, Punaweb and other furums have become a lifeline for us until we are able to move. Aloha and counting the days.

PunaPaula

RE: Introduce yourself - KeithLee - 03-28-2006

Hi all...Anthony Valadon here, friends call me Tony.
I have lived on the island about 15 years now. I hate to admit that I did some BI bashing in my head back about 8 years ago and decided this place didn't cut it. Moved to Florida for about a year and Florida really didn't cut it.
We came back to the island with "0" and started over again. Wasn't easy at first but things have a way of falling in to place for me on this island.
That one year away was the best investment I ever made. When we returned I knew I was home in Hawaii and have no desire to be elsewhere.
The recent sale of our home in Waimea has allowed us the freedom to come over to the Puna side, invest in a piece of property that isn't right next to the highway, and settle down. (fingers crossed)
My interests include photography, computer aided design (brochures, ads, etc.), and 80/90s hard rock & metal (though I don't party anymore).
I have been married for 10 years and have a 7 month old son.
Life is good!
Glad I came across this forum, it'll be nice to meet some of you in the future.
Not sure what the criteria for being a "Punatic" is but I didn't fit in in Kona or Waimea and have a feeling I may just fit in over here.
