Of course it wasn’t much of a desirable route back then, but it was an option.(12-03-2022, 09:08 PM)Durian Fiend Wrote: How long was it closed in ‘84? Fissure 4 has ceased erupting. At current rate of progress, approximately 12 days for the flow to reach highway. RE: Mauna Loa erupting - ironyak - 12-03-2022 Looks like USGS sprung for the unlimited plan - now a live video cam on fissure 3. https://www.youtube.com/live/SnjGqn1K9ZQ (Edit: Seems somewhat unstable so link may go stale and a new live link be established) RE: Mauna Loa erupting - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 12-03-2022 Thanks for the Fissure 3 link ironyak. 'Tis the season! And much more interesting than the burning fireplace logs they broadcast on cable TV around this time of year. You mean like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRbiqM6kif8 RE: Mauna Loa erupting - dobanion - 12-04-2022 Thank you USGS! This is the exactly what I was hoping for. Volcano geek. Watched Iceland, watched La Palma, now I get to watch Mauna Loa. To my wife’s similar reaction. Who cares? Me. I'm lucky enough to have witnessed St. Helens, Kilauea, and now Mauna Loa all erupt with my own eyes. And while Leilani was still Kilauea, it was almost like getting a bonus volcano! RE: Mauna Loa erupting - My 2 cents - 12-04-2022 By far, the most spectacular eruption experience for me was flying around the 1500' fountains at Puu o'o'. At night!!! Twice! Maybe not the smartest thing I've ever done, but risk-reward, right? RE: Mauna Loa erupting - Obie - 12-04-2022 "kalakoa - Wait for road to be destroyed, declare emergency, apply for Federal bailout. Yep - nothing easier than taking no action and letting others pay for the consequences in the form of nationalized debt to be possibly paid in the future at reduced cost through monetary inflation - financialization for the win i.e. "you can ching, ching, ching, cash in on this tragedy!"" It's state highway built with federal funds. That's why the state sent 4 people with EMA over from Oahu. Our US rep asked for help already. The county shouldn't be involved. RE: Mauna Loa erupting - ironyak - 12-04-2022 Sorry, not interested in this turning into another round of back-and-forth with TomK being an insufferable git, but have at it if you insist. |
