Bring that up with Kane if you have a beef with it. All I did was clarify what he was referring to with his post. How many posters in this thread haven't been civil to each other? And where in this thread have I not been civil? RE: Most expensive groceries in the country... - Moderator 2 - 01-31-2026 it's very interesting that you have let the word sh1t stand solo I don’t catch everything. Provide the location and I’ll check. (withheld) Face it, you apply severe bias and inconsistency in your function as a "moderator." This is presicely why Punaweb ended up as it is today. Now, I'm off to ignore this leftard safespace for another extended period of time. Aloha! RE: Most expensive groceries in the country... - Moderator 2 - 01-31-2026 If you haven't figured out how to use the forums search function by this point... (withheld) I know how. I searched the term you mentioned and the last use other than yours in this thread was in the year 2020. So I asked you for additional information. RE: Most expensive groceries in the country... - Wao nahele kane - 01-31-2026 One last note. MyBB group software includes automated editing tools that will edit slang terms and other custom entered words so users aren't able to use those selected words. Learn to use it. And you're dead wrong about the words use and many other slang words usages throughout the forum. (withheld) Searching for sh*t (* replacing the i)using the search function shows that word used in some form on post#109, #133, #145, and #146. When I do a search, I see 12 pages of posts displayed spanning from 2006 to 2026. Numerous uses in 2025. RE: Most expensive groceries in the country... - Moderator 2 - 01-31-2026 Searching for sh*t (* replacing the i) Thank you. I searched for kane’s requested term. His was specific, if he had asked me to search as you did, I would have. He could have even said “and variations of”. I’m not a mind reader, and as I said I don’t catch everything. I didn’t see it, he did. In reviewing your post #’s I would add that using the term as in “making **** up” hits differently to this reader than using the word as effluent. RE: Most expensive groceries in the country... - HiloJulie - 01-31-2026 Now, I'm off to ignore this leftard safespace for another extended period of time. What a better way to express your opinion than referring to someone who leans left politically is somehow mentally handicapped. So 1970's and so Archie Bunker. I am sure you could do better than that Kane. At least I would hope so, but to be honest, I won't hold my breath. And when I see terms like that used, especially today, with all due respects to PunaWeb, but this is why America has ended up the way it is today. RE: Most expensive groceries in the country... - Punatang - 01-31-2026 Please forgive me for getting off topic here and circling back to groceries. I took my own advice and made my family some Avocado Toast which was nearly free but I will attempt (with my well known low IQ and triggering, lazy, inattention to detail) to assign realistic values for those who genuinely care about eating in this place with the most expensive groceries in the country (see thread title). Please let me start by saying that the hostilities have reached such a sad point here on Punaweb, that I am, for security reasons, once again utilizing a photo from Perplexity.ai which was introduced to me here on Punaweb. Please forgive me if you find this triggering. We like avocado toast. We make our own sourdough bread and it's legendary. We use the organic flour from Costco mostly but will grab Organic King Aurthur Flour at Malama in a pinch. The cost in that case is wildly different but let's go with King Aurthur for our costs so we hopefully get less trolled, at least on that point. We often like an egg on our avocado toast and I have selected an uncannily representative photo from Perplexity.ai. We get almost all of our eggs and avocados for free because we network in our neighborhood and we reciprocate which is something everyone should learn to do if they have not already. The abundance multiplies. It is the secret of the original Hawaiian economy. Someone hands you something and you have two "problems". Who do I give half of this to and what can I give the person who just handed this to me. Exponential abundance. Scarcity is not the natural state of things - Abundance is. But on the rare occasions when we buy eggs with cash, we pay top dollar to people we know who produce eggs for cash and do it the right way. Same goes for avos. Let's assume you buy both at Malama Market, again to avoid the trolling. $10 of flour gets us 50 or more thick slices of sourdough. - $10/50= $.20 per slice/avocado toast $10 of avocados makes 6 or more avocado toasts . - $10/6= $1.67 per avocado toast $10 of eggs makes 12 avocado toasts. $10/12= $.83 $.10 of salt makes 3 avocado toasts. $.10/3=$.04 (rounded up) $.05 of water makes 3 avocado toasts $.05/3=$.02 (rounded up) $.30 of Hawaiian Electric to make 3 avocado toast (baking bread, cooking egg, toasting toast) $.30/3=$.10 per avocado toast. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Total cost for a thick, belly busting, organic, golden yoke egg, creamy avocado toast - $2.86 (hopefully - I'm low IQ and have difficulty with math and I'm too lazy to double check.) LMK. Or you can do it our way for less than $1 per slice of ono avo toast. (this includes styling out the neighbors who style us out and some who don't) EnJoy! RE: Most expensive groceries in the country... - HiloJulie - 01-31-2026 Assuming you have a home, oven, toaster and utensil stocked kitchen, along with HELCO power, I am sure your numbers are close Tangy. But, for most of the poor hungry Puna folks, those would be some pretty big assumptions! At any event, with all of today's instant everything, hi speed internet and ultra high def iPhone cameras and the like, why the need to lift pictures off of cooking websites and/or right wing propaganda websites when you could just take a quick pic of the delicious avocado/egg toast you so proudly claim you just made? |
