RE: S.P.A.C.E. Community Meeting - March 6th - peregrine - 02-28-2010 This is a good opportunity to also change the venue for the meeting to a place where every interested person feels welcome, especially since the people in the community who are closest to and have the most complaints about SPACE are the ones who are most disenfranchised and unwelcome. RE: S.P.A.C.E. Community Meeting - March 6th - DanielP - 02-28-2010 I dunno, peregrine, from the opening post, it sounds to me as if the meeting is being called for all of those that SUPPORT SPACE. Not opponents. Whatever, Dan RE: S.P.A.C.E. Community Meeting - March 6th - StillHope - 02-28-2010 Peregrine,do you realize how much damage your posts are doing to the very cause you are fighting for? You said : "people in the community who are closest to and have the most complaints about SPACE are the ones who are most disenfranchised and unwelcome." And it appears to be that you are the only one who are not allowed to attend. You might be misunderstood, wrongly accused - everything is possible. But your initial post about Graham (true or not) and "no trespassing order" against you(?) already done enough damage . Don't you see that it looks like there's no problem with noise and other crowd related issues - just a personal grudge? I am not saying it is,but do you see how it looks like?!. I hope my joke is a joke: http://punaweb.org/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10189 RE: S.P.A.C.E. Community Meeting - March 6th - terry.way - 02-28-2010 quote:No. Proof to follow: quote: quote:I think they expect opponents, why else would a professional moderator be running it. The person I would like to hear from is my immediate neighbor. He's active duty, and won't be able to attend. I have a lot of respect for him. He is upset about 1) African drumming, now ceased, and 2) parking in front of his house. He is moving, a result of his duty. I'm a SPACE supporter, and I think SPACE will address his concerns. He will never be happy with SPACE, but if the next people to move into his house have a pleasanter experience than he did, we're all better for it. RE: S.P.A.C.E. Community Meeting - March 6th - peregrine - 02-28-2010 I wrote what I did because it is what is talked about between people who know the facts and have experienced the ugly side of the SPACE organization. As I have stated repeatedly, there would be no petition, no formal complaint, if Mr.Ellis and the administration had always been interested in and valued differing viewpoints, even if they were uncomfortable. This "community meeting" is only a last minute attempt to rally support in the face of more vocal opposition. The simple fact that even one person who has been particularly vocal is barred from the discussion should be an indicator of how the organization deals with it's opponents. Furthermore, a number of the petitioners who are invited simply do not feel comfortable walking into a situation where they are on "enemy" territory and expect to be targeted, moderator or not. Given some of the history I have outlined, can you blame them? If opponents are expected, and a moderator is needed, indeed, if the goal is resolution or at least understanding between opposing parties, having neutral territory is essential. RE: S.P.A.C.E. Community Meeting - March 6th - StillHope - 02-28-2010 If it 's not the meeting between the immediate neighbors and the SUP holders then the people who are affected by noise and other crowd related issues would be in minority,BIG TIME. . Why would everyone else not support SPACE? They would have the convenience without paying the price And how about inviting the government authorities who already support SPACE? RE: S.P.A.C.E. Community Meeting - March 6th - Rob Tucker - 02-28-2010 I think that many of you, in considering the upcoming SPACE community relations meeting, are losing track of the fact that the Planning Department and the Planning Commission will be having public meetings of their own to consider any application for expanded uses of SPACE. The March 6th SPACE meeting is not a governmental meeting. Those public Planning Commission hearings (I have attended a number of them) will allow all members of the public, for or against an application, to submit written or verbal testimony. Written testimony has no limit. Verbal testimony is generally limited to three minutes. The complaints filed are one matter for county process. Any further application(s) for expanded SUP terms and conditions will be another. No legal matters will be settled in any way at SPACE's March 6th meeting. Nothing prevents or precludes anyone from meeting and gathering in any other venue they choose. The planning Commission will not prevent anyone from submitting written or verbal testimony. Personally I believe that the testimony and opinions that matter fall into to three groups. One group consists of those residents of Seaview that choose to take interest in the matter. The other group consists of those government officials which are required to take interest and respond to complaints and applications whether or not they are personally interested. The third group are those individuals who choose to take interest in any processes of community or government (This includes me. The situation is a learning moment and case study). The first two groups will have the most inherent clout in the process. The third group will have the least inherent clout in the process (but not zero clout). RE: S.P.A.C.E. Community Meeting - March 6th - terry.way - 02-28-2010 Holding the meeting at any venue other than SPACE would encourage off-area supporters, and discourage local neighbors. Off-area supporters would be in minority,BIG TIME. Holding the meeting at SPACE makes sure local neighbors have access. And forces off-area supporters to drive. There's opposition with good intent, and there's other opposition. I want to talk about performances, markets, noise, SUP, zoning. The debate can be framed such that both sides are right. Fragile egos want to be right, and any opposition to be wrong. "SPACE is outside its SUP" You're right! "SPACE is an excellent community facility" You're also right! "SPACE makes too much noise" You may be right! "SPACE is run by illegal aliens and they lied about me to Child Protective Services" One of these things is not like the others. RE: S.P.A.C.E. Community Meeting - March 6th - StillHope - 02-28-2010 Terry,I believe that peregrine is the only one who suggested off-premises meeting. Seaview location it's where it should be for the people to see a lot of details in person. RE: S.P.A.C.E. Community Meeting - March 6th - peregrine - 02-28-2010 "SPACE is outside it's SUP" You're right. "SPACE is an excellent community facility" You are wrong. It is privately owned and run, therefore not truly of the community. "SPACE makes to much noise" If the noise is with legal limits, this is a matter of opinion. "SPACE is run by illegal aliens and lied about me to CPS" An example of their superior attitude to the community. I am the only one on this forum who has suggested a different meeting site, because the others who desire it have chosen not to engage in the forum. If the meeting is truly about SPACE's relationship with it's neighbors, than it will be a private meeting, on neutral ground, between SPACE representatives and the residents and owners within Seaview whom are affected by any of SPACES activities. |
