What I do not understand is how these guys are allowed to fly so low in the town area of Keaau. The 2 bigger guys were way low this afternoon right through town....No matter what, Keaau town is zoned residential, and these guys were flying right over the schools during hours, way lower than the limit...(interesting to note that the tour helicopters were flying much higher than normal all afternoon, so the overall helicopter noise at the middle school was less....)

They buzzed Black Sands yesterday and also Seaview. The rumor is that they made two busts in Seaview. Isn't it interesting that as soon as the Mayor leaves town, the Fed's step in. Of course they had to have the local police involved. Lowest priority for the police Dept.??? I guess if the Mayor is gone, the mice will play.

Feds can do whatever they want in the name of the crusade of "War on Drugs" (or "War on Terrorism")

Actually the Feds bring in police officers from Maui. The HPD is not involved because of the ordinance.

The problem here with regard to local helicopters flying about is a couple things “legally” speaking.

Before talking about the tourist helicopters, I’d like to touch on Operation Green Harvest, because they were clearly the nuisance plaguing us today (BTW… take picture, keep logs, record decibel levels and get elevations if you have the resources). With regard to that operation, firstly it does not meet the legal definition of an emergency operation. In many municipalities across this country, police helicopters will respect the level of noise they inflict upon the general populace inclusive of using stealth mode birds. Green Harvest is clearly aimed at “Shock and Awe”, consistently breaking flight elevation regulations and paying little to no attention to the fact that they are not an emergency operation. Being a former military member, I know this scenario all too well. There is no doubt that the birds flying about today where indeed attempting to practice “Shock and Awe”. In a court of law and facts bearing witness, the operation would be ordered grounded until they were drafted new operation standards. There is nothing legally professional about what they were or have been doing and with enough citizens backing a class action stop order law suit; the operation could be ordered grounded until they adopt respectful flight standards.

There is federal law that allows local municipalities to regulate helicopter operations. There are also other routes to shut down obnoxious helicopter operations, especially those that are not emergency service oriented. The judicial system is one of three branches of government in this country and it’s one that carries some serious stopping power with regard to such issues.

I for one am about fed up to the hilt with this juvenile behavior. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for busting the pot operations, but, I draw the line when it comes to practicing general disrespect to legally abiding citizens. Enough is enough.

I think it’s long past time for an enterprising person to start a website dedicated to this issue. A place to report helicopters, a place to begin gathering data with regard to activities of these local helicopters… also a website to engage in a grass roots movement for judiciary actions against these birds. If I had the time, I’d start it myself today.

Let the local helicopter community be forewarned, respect the citizens of this county or face future judicial grounding. We’re not all just a bunch of stupid island hicks and yes, you'll see by bare ass again if you fly over my property with your clients. You know who you are Blue Hawaiian Bird and thank-you for flying away from my place last time you went by.

"Boxy" white helio, no markings, over mid Lelani Estates today for about a half hour (approx 1 PM). Looked like they were flying a grid, very slowly. HELCO advised couple of weeks ago they would have choppers checking lines. Thought it might be them, but they weren't flying down roads (N-S) but going E-W. Shouldn't all aircraft be clearly marked with some sort of ID.
