I don't know the local politics at all, so it may not help if the local guys are literally paid for. But, you could put pressure on the companies with an "issue advocacy" campaign. It's kind of a hybrid PR, political, earned media and grassroots campaign. You can do this either with very little work and a lot of money, or a lot of work and very little money.
I've been a campaign consultant for 19 years, and I'd be happy to advise you for free, write a campaign plan, etc.
I make a living doing this for people that I sort-of kind-of agree with, which is why I don't sleep at night, which is why you see my posts at really messed-up hours. It would be nice to help a good cause.

I have always wondered if the green harvest people give cash incentives to the tour heli pilots for directing them to good spots to go to for plants.

Aloha scuba man.Thanks for responding and I will talk more with you this.I am not feeling too good right now.I also am a workaholic and loose sleep over endless things I need to be doing.When I feel better I will write you here to talk more.Also,to respond to punagirl,that is a big yes.there are benefits to the piolts who cooperate with green harvest.In fact I found a case on the internet where a commercial pilot reported someone.They went to jail by the way!!!! Please keep the email going !!!!

I can't believe more people aren't responding to this issue.I guess a lot of people just don't care about their civil liberities any more.No wonder the gov.and corporate ventures are finding it easy to slowly remove our rights,and our will to fight for them !!! Since posting these messages I have been bombarded by helicopters,commercial and greenharvest,more than usual.But I am going to stick up for myself.I will be bombarding every official office I can think of with digital recorder footage.I hope everyone will do their part.Signed sincerely

i hate the bas**rds also, but after years of calling, complaining, writing letters, what's left? we voted in jacobson who's against the terrorist green harvest program but all the other council members have their heads up the feds and cops a**es, so nothing ever changes. as far as the tour copters which are just as invasive and destructive there was a group a few years back where we would call the feds 800 number but again no results, one guy and i even went as far as going to see a lawyer to see what legal avenues there were, and unless you have a ton of $$$(which is what it's all about)then good luck. i'm ready to join up the fight again if someone can come up with a viable game plan. aloha and peace!

Right on Loffelkoffl.I think we have something different this time.If you don't succeed,try,try again !It has been suggested that we form a grass roots citizen community organization.We would collect video of air craft,register voters for our cause,and campaign our cause.Scuba man 7 is on board and will help.We just need a lot of people to join our group.Strength in numbers.Our gov.officials are suppose to represent the majority;that includes non-voters, Not just campaign contributors.Our politicians are already aware of the public being frustrated or there wouldn't be a hotline number to call.Unfortunately, all they do is nothing.I personally feel like i live in a war zone.So,much for the serenity of hawaii residents.Has is ever occurred to politicians that it is the residents and not the tourists that vote them in? That seems to merit more thought,so does voting on people who will actually want to represent the majority of people and not their agenda or their campaign contributor's agenda.I think scuba man 7 is right that the heli companies contribute to politicians.We have to beat them at their own game.I am willing to donate a lot of time to this cause,but I can't do it alone.So,thank you to all who are willing to get together.Also,this email is a start on the search for that elusive creature that is a lawyer that will care about this cause and not the money !!!! okay,let's do it!!!!

Totally agree regarding a grass roots citizen organization for this issue and other issues. In many ways the majority is silent and accepting of the happy marriage between Politicians and campaign contributors.
It might be worthwhile for this grass root organization to pull all the other groups and deal with the quality of life issues that affects the majority of people in Puna. (rather than beeing another special interest group). For example there are already various other subdivision associations, Rob’s Pahoa MainStreet Association etc.

Some good news for a change.I found out that on April 13,2007,the Hawaii State Legislature adopted two Bills that confirm the politicians might be hearing us !!!!
One is HR 158,which formed an Aircraft Noise Abatement Advisor Committe.The second is HR 159 to establish noise sensitive operating procedures and air traffic patterns to reduce and control aircraft impacts!!!! It is a start and I will continue to keep people posted.
