RE: think about this next time you use you cel phone. - chip - 04-17-2007 Just a thought ' could vog cause the bees to be on the move? chip RE: think about this next time you use you cel phone. - Hotzcatz - 04-17-2007 So far nobody seems to have mentioned GMO crops. I'd bet the modifications which were made so the plants are resistant to some insects has also affected the pollen of the plants which would then affect bees. The folks monitoring the hives seem to mention the bees "get lost" and can't find their way back to the hive. In actuality, from the evidence they have i.e. no bees coming back to the hive, that would not preclude the demise of the bees from whatever method the GMO crops are getting rid of the other "pest" insects. RE: think about this next time you use you cel phone. - allensylves - 04-17-2007 GMO crops are mainly for Bt toxin (Bacillus thuringiensis) or herbicide resistance. Bt is a stomach (not a contact)toxin specific for caterpillars (Lepidoptera) and is not toxic to honey bees, which is why organic growers can apply Dipel, Thuricide, etc. without killing bees. Herbicide resistance gives the GMO plant the enzymes to inactivate the herbicide (Roundup) so it is not affected, but the weeds around the crop plants are killed. Therefore, neither of these types of GMO plants should produce anything affecting bees. The bee lab where I work has not experienced any sign of "colony collapse disorder" and we are on the edge of Baton Rouge, with plenty of access to cell phones and towers. I mean, I use my cell all the time and I got a great hive inside of a wall in a run down shack... No problems bees are plentiful in hawaii... I think it's only happening on the mainland and it's due to Global Warming.... RE: think about this next time you use you cel phone. - LeeE - 04-19-2007 I'd read an article on either <whatreallyhappened.com> or <rense.com> which points to GMO's as being a more likely culprit in the disappearance of bee populations. Now, cell phones and brain damage, that's another can o worms! I think in Britain, children aren't allowed to use cell phones. This is not an April Fools joke apparently. http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/americas/04/22/vanishing.bees.reut/index.html RE: think about this next time you use you cel phone. - Beachboy - 04-23-2007 quote: amen! I wanted to retire and do some travelng... and live in my house in Hawaii. But now it looks like I will be building a survival compound in Montana. Producing your own food will be the number one issue. RE: think about this next time you use you cel phone. - haoleboy - 04-25-2007 It's a Y2K global collapse, AGAIN!
