RE: State I.D. - kalakoa - 08-31-2012 The passport card is also an acceptable form of ID at any Federal checkpoint (TSA, courthouse, etc), well worth the extra $20. It also satisfies the "citizen/lawful presence" requirements at the State ID office, DMV, community college, prospective employer, etc. Highly recommended if you live "outside the USA" -- which is exactly how Homeland Security treats anything outside the "48 contiguous states + DC". RE: State I.D. - dayna - 08-31-2012 If you are looking for ID just for flying, remember that you do not have to have an ID to fly. It just makes things easier and faster. You CAN fly without an ID. Just allow extra time for extra screening and phone call or two made by TSA. And in most places, it's not that much extra time (like mintues not hours lol). Dayna www.E-Z-Caps.com RE: State I.D. - kani-lehua - 08-31-2012 I need the State ID for multiple purposes other than just for flying. No DL and expired passport. Say for instance, you use your CC and the cashier asks to see your ID. That's perplexing since my pic is on the back on the CC. Also, I have a name change. Most places will take an expired passport as a valid form of ID. Dayna www.E-Z-Caps.com RE: State I.D. - kani-lehua - 08-31-2012 No. Maiden name (pre-Civil Union last name). Have already changed my SScard to new last name. Would like everything to match. Flight tix are booked under new last name as well. I suppose I could carry the CU license, SS card, etc. as proof of identity. For example I needed a duplicate SS card and instead of sending my passport potentially into a black hole I mailed my passport card instead. Yes I got it back but I don't like not having my passport- what if I want to leave the country suddenly but my passport is temporarily gone... Also came in handy to buy RE: State I.D. - Carey - 01-02-2013 Good News...to a point... The state is adding 2 new staff members to the county Drivers License offices, one in Hilo & one in Kona, to process the new state ID's... These staff should be able to process 7,000 IDs each per year... which sounds really good until you realize that is less than 4 per hour... My big wonder is: Why does it take over 17 minutes each to process these new ID's? I am sure it has a lot to do with all of the verification that is now needed.... but still... 28 IDs a day per clerk does not really sound like computer-age technology is in use... On the plus side, at $20 per ID, these new clerks should be able to cover the costs of having them by bringing in up to $140,000/yr in ID fees per clerk...just think if they could process even more IDs per hour.... we could solve the budget problems! RE: State I.D. - David M - 01-02-2013 I'll bet they good do a $50 nonresident version and clean up. David Ninole Resident Please visit vacation.ninolehawaii.com |
