Can't deny that it's a killer location. Some business will snatch it up I'm sure. But then again, the old island naturals is a pretty good location too and last I saw, they can't get anyone in there. Rent is so horrendous that it will often take mainland chain-type of establishments to actually survive. Especially in that $$$ corridor of Hilo that incorporates the mall, KTA, Walmart, Target, HOme Depot, etc.

since we're dreaming i suggest some hip eatery with live musical entertainment that actually pays the musicians a decent wage.

Pitiful, big box and chain everything has absolutely ruined the majority of personal entreprenuership. Gone are the days of sole proprietor shops and mom and pop restaurants. Very sad really. So I guess in the end, IMHO, I am NOT one bit saddened by the big chains getting their come-up-ense. I have seen too many privately owned businesses on the mainland swallowed up and put out of business by these big chain stores! Wouldn't it be better to encourage some small private restaurant to come into Hilo, instead of an Applebees or Chilli's all thier food tastes the same and NOT much creativity there, or much of a choice for a nice meal. JMHO [:p]

I was told about two months ago that this is going to be a bank. Just thought I would update the thread.

RE: Blockbuster closing - dmbwest - 04-11-2013

Trader Joe's would be a nice name for a bank. Lots of money would come in too.

Good riddance to Blockbuster. During their heyday when they had the lion's share of video purchasing power they tried to abuse it by trying to dictate what kinds of films should be made. Or not made.

You're probably thinking of Walmart -- lots of things "don't get made" because Walmart won't buy them.

Blockbuster is famous for the "special Blockbuster edit" of popular movies; these had to be "watered down" for rental in the more conservative parts of the USA.

To the best of my knowledge, Trader Joe's is one of the (many) companies who simply won't leave the CONUS. I would like to see a Harbor Freight, but they're apparently another CONUS-only chain.
