I agree with your disagreement. It's a waste of money to get those big ass stupid waste of money tires since stock tires grip just as good. Those rolling hazards are just the opposite of dropping a truck. It's all for the look of what dumb things your can do to your truck.

I agree, less is more when it comes to "illegal activities" that do know one else any harm, but this is an example of one that can. I seem to remember a mother, maybe even a grandmother that was killed when a truck in front of her threw a rather large piece of lava or rock through her windshield while she was simply driving down the road. It hit her in the forehead and killed her. I can't remember now if it happened in Hilo or somewhere on Maui, but it was one of the last years we were there, maybe '90 or '91. While these trucks are maybe fun to look at and drive, they are dangerous to others....just sayin'.

So just when did that "cultural rite" of oversize tires start? 10 years ago? Maybe 20? That "cultural rite" certainly didn't exist 50 years ago, and while we are at it is home invasion a "cultural rite". What about beating your kids, wife, and /or girlfriend? Are they "cultural rites"?

I drive a 1992 Toyota Camry because it gets me from here to there faster than walking or hitch hiking. I pay the government gas tax to fix the roads (in Honolulu) and registration (to pay off political pet projects)

I really don't want to have to replace my windshield again and I was hoping that some discussion might spur the police to do their jobs since they just got a pretty good pay raise.

The police will "selectively enforce" any and all "equipment violations" as is appropriate for the "cultural heritage" of the "alleged offender".

This is a great "system" if you're not in the "ethnic minority".

mud flaps and correct headlight aiming should be part of any safety check - or responsible owners equipment check before entering the roadway

With all the dirt/gravel roads we have even normal cars/tires pick up rocks. Then we get on the highway.
Rocks fly out and bounce. With tires sticking out past the fenders rocks can be ejected straight up and many other directions.
That's one big reason that I stopped riding my motorcycle on the Highway.

It isn't a truck unless you got a 12" life and running 38s....

RE: Big Overhanging Truck Tires - Carey - 09-19-2013

OK, some of this is somewhat tongue in cheek...but there also rings a lot of truth in all of it...

Doesn't matter the lift or the tires, it is the FENDERS that are lacking on these trucks...any idiot can get (even make) fender extenders to comply with the vehicle code...but... well.... they would start popping up right quick if the code was enforced & the tickets were required to be paid....

Doubtful that will ever happen... 'cause it is a cultural thing to do 'civil disobedience' on those important things, like wide tires on skinny little lifted trucks...

Gotta be lifted, 'cause they are too small to see otherwise... (any meaning you wanna fill in works!)

RE: Big Overhanging Truck Tires - 4antares - 09-20-2013

Big tires/big trucks are just means of compensating for other shortcomings.

life is short. enjoy it

RE: Big Overhanging Truck Tires - gogould - 09-20-2013

It is kind of helpful to have reasonably priced available aftermarket this and that to get safe.
Being a survivor of numerous safety programs I have become convinced that safety is good. Now if I can just convince others. They won. And so did I even though I did not care that much until I did.

It was strictly by way of consistent reward, punishment and forced education over a long period of time. Without that nope I would not have gotten it.
