YOu might like those small lobster bite things at suisan. I think they are called "popcorn" lobster. They are like little crayfish, and they are from New Zealand- which I'm assuming is less polluted?

Dayna, last year around this time there was a vendor at Macuu Farmers Market that had salmon for sale flown in from Alaska. When we move from SE we plan to have the boat that we buy spot prawns and dungie from here on the rock fly a freezer box full to us. There is also Good God's seafood here and he can fly stuff to anywhere, you can request whats fresh off the boat. Here is his link - http://www.goodgodlobster.com/

It's not 'like' salmon, but if you like it then you might want to try opelu. Split them in half, sprinkle with Old Bay seasoning, and pan fry. Really good and usually cheap if it's there.

UnknownJulie, maybe they are langostinos? Those are pretty yummy little critters. Coppercoin40 thanks for the link. I'll check it out. I've seen the guy at the Makuu Market I'll have to see how often he flies in the fresh fish and if it's deeply frozen on the way down here. A little light freezing doesn't affect flavour much but hard freezing ruins the texture and flavour for me.

Carey, I'll look into that rainbow yellowtail. It might be fun to try even if it doesn't taste like salmon.

Another friend I mentioned them to called them that name, but I dont know. They look like pink giant rolly polly bugs if you ask me, but they do taste good.

I totally forgot about Jerrys in Juneau too. I used to buy their bratwurst made with alaskan beer.

save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha

I have gotten deathly puking all night sick every single time I've eaten Salmon since I moved to Hawaii. We used to get our salmon from friends who were retired and fished a lot when we lived in Oregon, and when we first moved here I kept trying to find decent salmon, but now I just eat ahi, ono and New Zealand mussels. It was a transition, but until I go visit my daughter in Portland, I am off salmon here on the Big Island.

I might try that, I've never had it before.
