Obama made a law that everyone gets internet, this is his home state. Write him.

comin' your way soon!

I have AT&T. Rarely in Eden Roc I will actually get a call while inside my container although the door must be open. Often I will get a chime indicating a missed call as soon as I step outside. The metal container pretty much kills reception. I am nearing the point where I will install a booster with an outside antenna, which I plan to install on a mast atop my container. When I really need reception I go up on the roof and usually get adequate reception.

[Sad] Yep, we are some of the folks who have just moved in and cannot get an internet port from Hawaiian tel(called for a port for 3 straight months --every day, nothing!!! Also no cell phone service. Oh well, at least I live in paradise.

Have you considered Hughesnet. I have it at my place out in the boondocks on the mainland and just upgraded to Gen4.It is faster than my DSL in Hawaii.

Jimnlau where do you live? I have one of those cheapo "straight talk" phones from walmart and get reception up in volcano, fernforest, hawaiian acres, orchidland, hpp and down in pahoa as well. Might consider trying one of those.

I noticed no one has mentioned Aloha Broadband. I've been using it for about 6 months, and couldn't be happier. I work online so I had to have reliable, fast internet and Aloha does the trick. No caps, and no delays, like what you get with satellite. I know they don't cover every area, but you can google them and check their website for coverage.

RE: Internet Access 2013 - sputnut - 05-21-2013

I checked out hughes and aloha. Internet it expensive there! Anyone got hi speed for less than $30 / month? My wife would have a cow, 70 bucks a month for just internet. Can you use magic jack on any of these? what do you all have, and what are you paying? help us all out here!

comin' your way soon!

RE: Internet Access 2013 - deltaS - 05-21-2013

Yup, internet is indeed expensive. I use MagicJack, and it works great, except that unfortunately right now they do not have Hawaii area codes available. I contact them every couple of months to ask, and they always say maybe in the future. Oh well. In any case I prefer paying less than a month of a cell phone bill for a whole year of MagicJack.

RE: Internet Access 2013 - EightFingers - 05-22-2013

Who has Aloha in HPP? Is it $70/month too?

RE: Internet Access 2013 - kalakoa - 05-22-2013

The government has already delivered broadband, which is "officially" defined thus:

if ONE house in the zipcode can get ISDN (128Kbit/sec) or better, that zipcode has broadband.

Remember those "free" satellite dishes that were paid for with "stimulus" funds? By definition, broadband is now available everywhere on the Big Island. Your tax dollars at work.
