While this is fantastic news and rightfully deserved, how much does anyone want to wager that our County Leadership will in some way, somehow screw this all up and keep it from happening?????

Wow, this is great news. I always want to volunteer to do this type of thing, but they never allow kids to help. Most annoying. Whether it's "Habitat for Humanity", vegetable picking, or something like painting. I understand why kids aren't "allowed to do anything anymore" (liability concerns that have been raised by people in the past), but it is still frustrating as a parent. Also, the child labor laws have gotten completely out of control in this country. Since the kids "cant work, and cant volunteer" then it's understandable that so many of them get into their 20's without having lots of skills. Hawaii is much better than most areas of the country because of the culture here, but it is still challenging as a parent to "find productive things for kids to take part in".

what a bunch of negative nellies

really?! you can't find productive things for your kids to do?!??
look around, open your eyes and mind and get creative.
there is plenty for all of us to do.

Local painting contractors get the work.
instead of predicting the worst case scenario let's all picture downtown looking fresh and clean - that is how good change happens. it starts with good thoughts.

I voted often (but not early)!

Congrats for the win!!!

It's great if paint contractors get the work, but it'd also be nice to have some whole family involvement in this. Downtown will look awesome!

From the original Benjamin Moore press release on their website:

Benjamin Moore will not only provide the paint and supplies needed for façades, porches, railings, shutters and other exterior building trims, but its color experts will consult on the best choices to enhance the architectural style, regional influences and historic references in each community. Skilled professional painters, many of them members of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America, will be hired, putting another segment of local business to work along with the local Benjamin Moore retailer who will be mixing the paints that are used.

Thanks, Rich. Whatever I read talked about the paint and color artists, but didn't mention the painters.
