Polycarbonate roofing will not pass fire inspection for an enclosed structure.

I've used the polycarbonate panels twice, once in Ga, once here. The get very brittle over time. I replaced the ones here with metal.

Thanks David, good to know.

Most roof requirements include having sufficient strength to walk on the roof for maintenance / safety.

Does that mean paying xtra for suntuf is worth it. I was thinking of buying the regular poly panels since they were so cheap. The cloudy Hilo weather not going protect the panels.

i have the heavy duty tuff panels on my lanai and they have been there close to 30 years. they are still fine. the cheaper ones (home depot) on a flat roof you will be lucky to get 5 years.

Too bad there is no such thing as clear metal panels! I'm thinking about the suntuf panels for covering my lanai.

Two 360s: At some point, might you consider putting solar of some sort on this structure? Just something to think about. I'm considering a carport as well and it would be a better location than my second story roof as far as maintenance goes...

Sometimes the smallest element of the house are the most noticed and attention to detail for that construction makes sense.

Hi Aramis,
The most durable roofing materials for a carport is metal or steel. I feel you are a bit unaware of the variety of steel panels available nowadays. They look very classy and aesthetic as well. When I remodeled my carport 4 months back, I got a variety of steel panels with bold colors available at steel buildings colorado springs. I was so impressed by them that I got them installed instantly. Check www.amfsteel.com to view various steel panels. I can assure you that they look very trendy and cool. They are also very durable and are available at affordable prices.
