RE: Television Series - "Flipping Hawaii" - Seeb - 02-10-2014 the filliping shtick is very harmful to the long term residents of wherever it is. drives up taxes their kids cant afford homes in the area then the area crashes ( sometimes done on purpose by real estate investor's.) ghetto phase then sell the now undervalued home to flippers repeat RE: Television Series - "Flipping Hawaii" - kalakoa - 02-10-2014 quote: For some reason I read this as "they will be able to afford to move away, since home will be far too expensive". I also tend to think that the usual margins in "flipping" would quickly be spent dealing with County permitting shenanigans, HELCO fees, and premium materials costs. RE: Television Series - "Flipping Hawaii" - Seeb - 02-10-2014 there was a Japanese developer on Oahu pulling the old block buster scam a few years ago. and it seemed no one there had a clue what he was up to RE: Television Series - "Flipping Hawaii" - Haaheo okole puka - 02-10-2014 "Flipping houses" used to be done by professional carpenters and was not "flipping", it was legitimate restoration work. These programs bring every novice get rich lazy idiot with a few extra bucks out of the woodwork to half a$$ once over a home and flip it. Most of these novice idiots never realized they could have sat on the home for 2 months and turned a profit through the over inflating market values. RE: Television Series - "Flipping Hawaii" - EightFingers - 02-11-2014 Little late. The Whale house (In HPP) was flipped into a VRBO a few months ago @gypsy69: I know Desi, bought several properties with her. The Desi in the show was not the Desi we know. She had to stick to a script - woulda been a lot more interesting and fun show is she was allowed to wing it. RE: Television Series - "Flipping Hawaii" - Delta9r - 02-11-2014 quote: Pot, meet Kettle. Kettle, Pot. "Life is labor, and all that is good in life comes from that labor..."
RE: Television Series - "Flipping Hawaii" - Bullwinkle - 02-12-2014 anyone one watching the discovery gold prospecting series? ..... the Bering sea series makes Alaskans seem like a bunch of greedy unstable speed freaks And locally it seems the Pig Hunters of hawaii are slandered in much the same way - holyweird should stay in holyweird - we have no need for exploitation RE: Television Series - "Flipping Hawaii" - HPPGuy - 02-12-2014 The more I watch the Hawaii shows on HGTV the more I think that they are all setups. The last show I watched showed a couple looking for an "off the grid" home in Hawaii (Puna) and were told that the "bare minimum" they would have to spend was $200K. I thought that was ridiculous! I could understand if they wanted to be on the water with all the amenities but they just wanted something plain with an acre or so. Another episode featured a family with a stay at home Mom, 6 kids and a Dad who sold used cars on Lanai. Their budget was 500K and they wanted to keep their payment under $2500 a month. Really? With six kids? I dunno, maybe they were lottery winners or something, just sounds doubtful to me. I think these shows are really just advertisements for the real estate websites. (www.hawaiilife.com anyone?) RE: Television Series - "Flipping Hawaii" - kalakoa - 02-12-2014 quote: Good one -- it's not just HGTV, nor is it limited to Hawaii. American Idol, anyone? RE: Television Series - "Flipping Hawaii" - HPPGuy - 02-12-2014 100% Agree with you! |
