Shave Ice, Nanawale? High speed internet? Who is your provider? Do all the lots have high speed internet?

Koki frogs and mosquitoes are not my neighbors. Need decent speed internet, electricity, low crime, neighbors, but not too close, ideal temperature range- 70f-80f, not in the rain belt.

Are you wanting this in Puna?

coquis are here to stay and probably don't stop singing till the 2500' level.

At 2500' it's cold and the rain is non stop.

High speed internet? In puna? Where? Sorry probably not.

Nice Neighbors? Maybe in Volcano but the lot's are small and it rains constantly at 3500'. Not to mention you got to drive for 20 minutes to get to foodland in Keaau.

good luck! I think what you request doesn't exist.

Thanks for the feedback guys..........I know that I'll never find 'perfect', but just looking for the best in my budget for more than 2 acres. Lots of lots to choose from and I hope to find a decent fixer-upper for a decent price as the rental prices really seem to be inflated.
I like the idea of removing the habitat for the koki's as it sounds the most efficient way to keep them at a distance. From what I've hear, they are on the march upland. My brief exposure to them in Lava Tree Park was a real earfull and would like to distance myself from them as much as I can.
Also agree that Volcano is a bit wet and cold for me altho I like the community.
May focus my search in the Kurtistown/Glenwood area.
Mahalos......

Look in the high elevations of HIlo. That's where I ended up buying. Up above the medical center it's downright cold sometimes. I do have coqui's but nothing major. Misquitos are less than Orchidland (where I own a lot). You will have a smaller lot, but there are some that are still pretty large. It depends how much you want to spend. It does rain a lot up here, but nice ocean views and breezes.

High speed internet is available anywhere cable TV is. Not all of Puna, but it's here.

No cable in Fern Forest! Cable on the other side of the highway in Glenwood. My AT&T data plan also is usually only one bar here and hard to get out. At 22/2300' Coqui's are here, but not as much yet. So... is any one getting on the internet with dial up? I was wanting to buy a Chromebook 2 when they come out on the 7th and was checking on an exterior dial up modem to connect me! If any one is using it, then I think I may get a landline and try it!

Anywhere in Puna will seem cool after living in Thailand, I'm sure. Don't worry about the coquis, they're not as loud as they used to be.

It sounds like you are describing the Volcano Golf Course subdivision. This is a fairly affluent, very low crime, on power and cable/high speed internet, no frogs and a very active group continuously on guard against the invasion of them, as well as low rainfall, and the possibility of absolutely stunning views. There isn't anything like it on this side of the island. It doesn't have the same vibe as the lower elevation.. i.e. the tropics.. but if you grok the whole Hawaii is a volcanic landscape thing then it's as close to being emerged in it as you can get.

Upper Hilo is very much in the rain belt...You may want to slip a little into Ka`u & look at the upper Volcano County Club, most lots are in the 3/4-one acre, dry side, near the highway, some have county water, no coquis, does have native birds, cooler, sunny more than rainy, of course, the lots are more pricey than a bit lower in the rain belt.

& There is a great international attraction at your doorstep.

but for those with VOG sensitivities, this is not the ideal place...so...the next choice out of the rainbelt & VOG would be into drier Waimea/Kohala...or the rain belt....

ADDED: for those that have only been here less than a decade, the rain belt has not been what is was in the past. We are still within the driest decade on record. Some climatologists believe this MAY be a 'climate change' artifact & that throughout the Pacific, the Walker Circulation cell (that creates our tradewind weather) has been 'off'. If this does become a permanent artifact, then the rain belt you remember from 25yrs ago is not quite what you will find here...right now...the big question is, will it go back to its normal rain, or continue under this newer profile....

Yes, I don't find that it really rains "that much". Just when I am getting sick of endless blue skies and my plants look wilted, the it will rain. There are weeks however when it seems to rain everyday and that can be a bit much.
