LOL, 'emergency' procedure would be to feel my way outside to the one gutter that shoots out into space and stand under it but now I'm skeerd. Gonna go with a nice warm candle from a punawebber tonight.

I did realize while trying to find the weather radar that RIMPAC may have that off-line...as the my normal radar feeds are only showing the Kohala radar on this island... Has anyone else gotten a local radar tonight?
Why would the sirens go off? I'm up in Orchidland so we never hear them anyway. Just curious. Bad storm tonight! So far no power outages.

Flash flood warning from Hawaii Civil Defense on my iPhone. A few flickers down here in lower HPP, but the power is on. Lightning flashes and very heavy rain for awhile. It has abated. Sea is a little churned up. I think a goddess got a little angry. She needs to stop that.
Meantime, back at the volcano........

Dayna - probably set off by a lightning strike. The sirens don't sound for thunderstorms under normal circumstances.
This is really unusual, don't remember thunderstorms happening this time of year before apart from one occasion in 1997 when there was a tropical system nearby.
PS. Don't take showers during a thunderstorm - really bad idea!

I belatedly stuck a straight sided bucket out in the open after the flash flood warning, after it got dark, maybe two hours ago.
5 1/2 inches since then (calming down now, knock on wood).
There's an 8 inch river running under the house (post and pier, sloped), so we have a sump pump running down there. Normally it stays quite dry under there.

Power out in volcano now. Was on,off,on,off constantly for about a minute, now has been out for about 30 minutes. Some serious light shows out there right now.

Power was out from Volcano to maybe Mt View Village or only far down as Peck Rd. for awhile, 21:45 to 23:30 I think.
