RE: Coffee for gift. - Anxious Messiah - 07-30-2014 quote: The Cloud Coffee from Hamakua (red bag), the Divine Ka'u Dark coffee (red bag), and the Ka'u Coffee Mill Peaberry (purple label) have been faves of mine for a while now. _________________________________________ Don't speak unless you can improve on the silence. RE: Coffee for gift. - julieb - 07-30-2014 My fave is Rising Sun (Kau) available from Will and Grace store in na'alehu, but you can get very good Kau "Big Island Coffee" at Cost U Less for a very reasonable price. RE: Coffee for gift. - missydog1 - 07-30-2014 Moa'ula in Ka'u ships. (The farm with the John Bull tasting room on Hwy 11.) aka Cloud Rest Ka'u coffee. http://www.kaucoffee.com/ They must have gotten in early to snag the kaucoffee.com domain. RE: Coffee for gift. - Mimosa - 07-30-2014 Sharkys - Organic grown locally exclusively on Rd 1 in Hawaiian Acres near C and D Roads on Road 1. Puna small farmer based. Our second choice is Kau - Can be found at Cost U Less,we like the very dark roast Gold and Black packaging. RE: Coffee for gift. - missydog1 - 07-30-2014 Sharky's is good and affordable. The only thing is when i was buying from them they only did quite a dark roast. I like dark roast but my husband likes medium, so he discovered Moa'ula, which has a good medium roast. RE: Coffee for gift. - HI_Someday - 07-30-2014 quote: When my parents came back from vacationing in Kona they brought me a Hula Daddy coffee mug. It's so cool and campy that everyone who see's it want's one of their own! RE: Coffee for gift. - VancouverIslander - 07-30-2014 quote: You can't really go wrong with any of these. Or most Ka'u coffee. Or most Kona (of which I really like Greenwell both for the coffee and the people). Mimosa: I thought Sharkys was right in Mountain view just off old Volcano Road? Big Island Coffee Roasters is definitely on Road 1 just after you turn off S. Kulani and are terrific people. RE: Coffee for gift. - terracore - 07-30-2014 Traditionally, I have only given Sharky's, however I prefer a dark roast, and they have been one of the few Hawaiian coffees available in a dark roast. Usually I get jumped on for any sentence I type that includes "Hawaii" "coffee" and "dark roast" (something about over roasting destroying the taste of the 'real' island coffee flavor or whatever)... whatever the case, I'm not some kind of coffee purist Nazi. I enjoy my coffee like I enjoy my cooling lava flows.... hot and dark. RE: Coffee for gift. - Carey - 07-30-2014 Sharky's & BI Coffee Roasters are both in Hawaiian Acres & neighbors. We know the owners & like the owners of both. Also have friends that have acres of their land in production for Greeenwell. With all of the wonderful choices of coffee beans, there is also the opportunity to assemble a gift package of a variety of different local beans & allow your friends the great joy of discovering their favorite! We have a couple of coffee trees that were spectacularly producing, having set their roots quickly through the planting pots we had. Then we decided they must move for a concrete lanai... They are just getting over the indignity of being ripped up from a perfectly wonderful place to stretch their roots & forced into a brand new neighborhood in our yard, having to share the sky with other orchard plants (oh, the horror!) Wait 'till they find out we have a few more coffee seedling we will be putting in their garden! RE: Coffee for gift. - punafish - 07-30-2014 I love this thread. |
