RE: 9/21 Underwater & Coastal Dive Against Debris - Obie - 09-10-2014 quote: That's a thought but the stuff still has to get into the dumpsters. There were days that we only had 3 dumpsters and they were filled as soon as they were dropped off. Then the debris was piled in the right of way and we needed backhoes and frontend loaders to fill the dumpsters. There are so few people who live down here that are capable of physical labor that they are burned out. RE: 9/21 Underwater & Coastal Dive Against Debris - DanielP - 09-10-2014 Wish I could be there to help. RE: 9/21 Underwater & Coastal Dive Against Debris - Obie - 09-10-2014 quote: Me too! I had to leave to care for my 90 year old mother!! While in Ohio taking care of her,I injured a knee !!! I get regular updates, though!! RE: 9/21 Underwater & Coastal Dive Against Debris - Kapohocat - 09-10-2014 quote: Next time in town, Dan, come on down! Robert and I miss seeing you! RE: 9/21 Underwater & Coastal Dive Against Debris - Carey - 09-10-2014 I have contacted the solid waste div & they know about this cleanup and will try and see if there is any way that they can assist for this date & also have just sent a request to Matson (they do donate waste containers & shipping for some ICC cleanups - this is an ICC cleanup, but we are just a group of dive & cleanup volunteers, w/o an NFP organization... so not in their "normal" scope of donations...but maybe...) Please keep these suggestions coming, as this is a cleanup that is far outside of our volunteer groups normal scope & I would hate it is there is a major "shoulda, woulda" that could be planned for in advance... RE: 9/21 Underwater & Coastal Dive Against Debris - punalvr - 09-10-2014 Obie, some of us can not take out the trash because we have small cars. Different story if every volunteer had a truck to haul trash away. I would take any help... punalvr RE: 9/21 Underwater & Coastal Dive Against Debris - Carey - 09-10-2014 Today realized, while dealing with "how to haul out the debris" that this actually might be the last chance TO haul out debris if the lava does continue toward the hwy at the currant rate (if we actually do get this debris clean up prior to the lava). It is interesting to see how things have changed in under 3 weeks, from when I first mentioned I could coordinate a cleanup in Kapoho, until today, when I am realizing this actually may be the last large debris cleanup utilizing the highway. Hopefully, we will get a debris hauling container from Matson. That would be an ideal solution, but I am trying to plan for the potential that we will need as many trucks and trailers, and to hope that we can get a waiver on tipping....or ask people to take small amounts out if can not... One thing for sure, I was getting complacent with doing the Coastal Cleanups, it was almost an automatic twice a year thing...yadayada.... Well, at least all of this is keeping my brain WAYY active for now, and I truly hope that we can make a lasting positive impact on this community that has been hit hard with debris. |
