The majority of the homeless in/around Pahoa are in that situation because they want to be.

There are a number of the hippie crowd that come into Pahoa on a daily basis and hang out, then hitchhike back to their blue tarps and makeshift shacks in the late afternoon.

Have you ever been to a street party in Pahoa? So many people Shi Shi-ing it's practically flowing. The only public restrooms are at the pool, not many drunks can walk that far.

The best way I've heard the Puna district described is "Starbuck's meets third world." I love the contrasts of all of the different cultures/lifestyles and Pahoa provides one of the best opportunities to witness that.

They may not want to be in that situation because they want to be, but want to be in Pahoa because they are in that situation.

I heard it described as Haight Ashbury meets the Star Wars lounge....I miss it already

"Starbuck's meets third world."

That's exactly what Puna needs, a Starbuck's.

Ideally ... right across from the Tin Shack.

I would gladly pay for parking to see that one...

I know a guy who spent a year in jail for taking a whiz behind the bar, believe it or not, because minors saw him do it. Lucky this dude wees in Pahoa, I guess, at least lucky for him.
edit: that was in Arizona, and he served the whole year behind bars, first offense, public indecency. He was employed, had his life together, just drank a few beers, didn't think much about his decision, was discreet or tried to be, and ... ruined his life. I wonder how that would fly here.

a warm nitrogen fix is good for healthy fence growth

save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha

It's great for palms and bananas too.
